- Wow what a awesome turn out of classic, hot rod and muscle cars, it sure appeared like the largest turn out ever in cars and people coming out to check them out as you could barely move inside any of the halls filled with cars! i gave up on taking any photos inside the buildings! I ran into drag racing Hall of Fame Don The Snake Prudhomme along with fellow Hall of Fame Dale Armstrong who were Grand Marshall's Dale had just completed a Falkner V 12 1957 Cadillac for one of his Customers, the Snake had his 1970 Mattel Wynns Jammer Plymouth Barracuda and U S Army Plymouth Arrow on display! two incredible guys along with their cars!

2008 Inaugural NHRA Heritage nostalgia series had their fourth event at Auto Club Famoso Raceway

The fan’s that came out got to see a great race despite not having a full field of top fuel dragsters , not sure what happened to all the T F cars a few years ago over 20 plus cars would show up to do battle for the Goodguys held nostalgia events, this event also did not bring out the fans in big crowds which was shame as the weather was sunny and very comfortable and in the high 70’s which for Bakersfield is great weather, there was plenty of nitro as Dale Pulde picked up a container full of the hard to get racing fuel at the port of Long Beach on Thursday to bring up the patch for the weekends race.
The total count of front engine fuel dragster’s counting two out getting their Fuel lic. Runs was 15 cars Those in attendance were some of the best cars on the west coast Bill Dunlap in Brendon Murrys Running wild one of the last Chevy powered TF dragsters on the west coast Dunlap would Qualify number 12 with a 6.59 e.t. as the rat could not make a full run without smoking the tires at ½ track on Murry said we just can not get the clutch dialed in tune with the fantastic track conditions # 13 Q would be Terry Cox debuting his Dads beautiful brand new Cheetah IV full bodied dragster this new car is just awesome Kenny Youngblood designed the paint scheme and a crew member on the team painted the car in candy apple red paint and of course cheetah spots down the full length of the body. The crew had new teething trouble with something in the fuel system as Ron Capps the Original RC had to use a squeeze bottle of fuel and help keep the TFX beast alive to get the car to back up, John Cox and crew think they may have to change some baffles in the fuel tank the car on it’s first pass was a 1/3 track pass and the first round would be a planed ½ track pass until they get the fuel system to work right. # 11 spot was held down by Shannon Stuart in Bob Richardson dragster with a 6.155 e.t. at 209.74 mph # 10 Mike McLennan out of Oakley Ca. with a 6.144 e.t. 216.18 mph. # 9 raisin farmer out of Fresno Ca. Denver Schultz in the TF car out of Texas run a best of 5.998 e.t. at 250 mph, eighth qualifier Adam Sorokin in the R&B Entertainment dragster with a 5.993 e.t. at 236 mph, seventh place held by Rick Mcgee in the Ledford racing Overtime Special 5.980 e.t. his speed 234.80 mph, sixth place Rick White in the White & Chuck Neal dragster out of San Diego Ca. running a 5.920 e.t. 251.39 mph, fifth Pete Kaiser in the Kaiser Family Ground Zero Dragster with a 5.894 e.t. at 248.00 mph, fourth spot had rick Williamson ran a great 5.87 e.t. at only 236.15 mph, number three qualifier was Jim Murphy in his Tim Beebe tuned WW II dragster 5.846 e.t. at slowing 220.69 mph, Troy Green out of Purcell Ok. held down the second place with a 5.813 e.t. 249.10 mph in the High Speed Silver Thin dragster and local racer Bad Brad Thompson and Steve Faria had the best tune up running a fantastic 5.784 e.t. at 258.54 mph who has gotten a lot of number one qualifier awards over the past few years and is one of the strongest top fuel dragster’s in the country.
First round highlights Stuart would come around the slight hole shot By Rick Williamson Stuart would drive around Rick with a great 5.800 e.t. @ 233 mph to Williamson’s losing 5.93 e.t. @ 245 mph next up was number one Q Bad Brad in the Larry Bless sponsored dragster Brad would get on and off the throttle once and still run a what should be a great 5.789 e.t. at 248 mph, but in the next pair Troy Green laid down low e.t. of the event running a awesome 5.715 e.t. 252.80 Mph in the following pair McLennan would win the battle of tire smokers putting Pete Kaiser on the trailer 6.26 e.t. Kaiser’s 10 sec run, The Farmer Denver would put a great hole shot on .077 light on Rick White and take the win light running a 5.903 e.t. at 246 mph to White’s quicker 5.877 e.t. 252. Mph White’s top end charge did not catch Schultz. Adam Sorokin would take out red lighting Rick McGee, Sorokin would still leg it threw for a 5.869 e.t. at 249.80 mph to McGee’s shut off 6.04 e.t. at 230 mph
2nd round would provide more close racing Adam Sorokin cutting a cat light reaction time of .003 to Bad Brad who .082 light Sorokin would parlay the light running his best e.t of the weekend running a 5.873 e.t . at 259.02 Mph to Thompson’s 5.877 e.t. with 249.58, troy Green would get a single and it was a good thing as Green’s dragster had severe tire shake and went up in smoke at the 330 foot mark running a 9.16 e.t. 88 mph, Jim Murphy would be up next his WW2 would leave the line 2nd but he would real Denver Schultz by the 1000 foot mark and drove around Denver taking the win light 5.886 e.t. at 227. Mph to Schultz losing 5.911 e.t at 245. The Semi’s looked like a great match up with Adam Sorokin racing Shannon Stuart, Adam would cut another great light and never saw Stuart as Sorokin’s win light would come on first as it had all day Sorokin running a 5.917 e.t. at 251 mph to Shannon’s trailing 6.12 e.t. 203 mph Troy Green would match up against Jim Murphy, Jim would lead the race to 1000 foot mark but then the WW II dragster expired and broke and Green would drive around the broken Murphy Troy’s wining e.t . 5.823 e.t. at 254.45 mph thus giving Green the lane choice for the final round and once the cars were pushed out there was a last minute lane change putting Adam in the near lane and Troy into the far lane and in the final Green never so Sorokin as Green won wire to wire of as Adam’s car went up in smoke and tire shake and watching his good friend Green win the 1st Fuel and Gas NHRA Heritage series race at Auto Club Famoso Racway. There were two guys trying to get there T F Lic one being Digger Dan Horan Sr. who raced his Don long Dragster at the PRO race in Tulsa Ok. In 1972 blowing the blower off the car and Hall of Fame drag racing photographer Steve Reyes caught the picture Horan’s blower explosion. Dan did not make it down the track as he had some fuel system trouble causing the car to be shut off. Dan is going to go to NHRA Hot Rod Reunion in Bowling Green Ky. Next weekend to try to get his top fuel lic renewed. Making his lic. Runs was Dan Danihof in his fantastic looking Diamond Back top fuel dragster. Car count should be better at the next NHRA Heritage race at Auto Club Famoso Raceway during the Hot Rod Reunion in Oct. as Jack Harris and the other Utah Posse group should be at the final race, also not at this race was Sacramento raceway’s Dave Smith’s T F dragster along with Butch Blair who has parked his dragster for the time being. John Rodeck should have his new Dave Uyehara built dragster done if Dave gets it finished. One note there were five Donovan engines, 4 Rodeck Chassis 4 Uyehara & 5 Stirling 1 Tedford & 1 Hansen

Alan Ross made it 4 NHRA Heritage races in a row in D/gas winning again in his 65 ford mustang. Doug Araiza and his Brother just built finished building Doug’s Awesome looking 69 camaro this being the 3rd time racing it since being built made Semi’s at Auto Club Dragway and Semi’s in Vegas and winning here at Fuel & Gas race not to bad! Doug would Defeat Ken Phillips in his 69 AMX in the final of C Gas 9.668 e.t. at 141.79 mph for Doug to Phillips losing 9.645 e.t. 139 mph The holeshot made the dif in this race! A/Gas Winner Dave Matson got his 2nd win in the NHRA Heritage Series races as he also won A/Gas at Vegas race in the Final Big Dave would put Rob Patten on the trailer for RU Matson running a 7.645 et at 168.66 mph to Rob’s 7.719 et at 181.45 mph
AA/Gas Chris Abbey of near by Clovis Ca. has been racing at Auto Club Famoso Raceway for over a decade and had not won a race in a while but he was the last guy standing after the final round his team just kept thinking positive as Chris broke on Friday’s first run and were not sure they could repair the damage his fellow racers in AA/Gas wish he had not fixed the car but in the final Abbey would race Canadian Jirk Kaplin racing his brand new AA/gas 63 corvette threw the debut win when he redlighted handing the win to Abby right at the start of the race. Abbey ran a 8.395 e.t.as he got way out of shape and almost crossed the center line which would have give the Canuk the win. A/Fuel Dr.Kin Bates dominated A/fuel coming out the # 1 Q spot the Dr. would also set top speed in his dean adams tuned injected nitro beast 6.316 et and T/S 224.60 MPH ..but in the final Dr. Bates would leave the line first and never see bill wayne as he went into instant tire smoke 60 feet out and shut off watching the good doctor drive away from him Bates ran a 6.409 et at 222.60 mph for the win for the Nitro car flying fortress built by Dave Tuttle.

What a blast I myself do not do that many of these types of events as I cover mostly drag racing and the car gatherings I do are normal style events such as the Good Guys DelMar car show and the CHIPS for Kids show at John Force’s!
The difference is night and day between those events and this one M@@NEYES Xmas Party is just that a party, I will say that over 95 percent of the hot rods etc that come to this gathering drive their vehicles be it the custom’s hot rods drag cars, low riders and the rat rods, there were a few drag cars that came in or on trailers but very few of the customs and rods came that way which was very cool! I was told by a few that this event has grown a lot over the first few events that were held at the Moon equipment headquarters in Norwalk Ca. the cars are mostly driven by a guys and gals who were not even born in the 1950’s as most of crowd was dressed in that style and girls or young woman dressed that way! They had their own manufacture mid way but most of booths were clothing, car art, pin striping and the pin up bombshell girls all fitting into the mid 50’s to early 60’s. Unlike the other two events the adult beverages flowed everywhere around the event and the 3 bands that I heard play with names like the Hot Rod Trio, the DynoTones they jammed playing that same era of music be it surf to hot rod related songs and getting the crowd enthused and energized, while this was going on drag cars and anyone whose car passed thru the tech line was permitted to make runs down the Irwindale 1/8 mile drag strip the quickest cars there had to be Stormy B. BF/Dragster & Sparky’s Grape Ape both with a small percentage of nitro in the tanks, along with a cacklefest to put some nitro into the air for the fans who packed the stands and walked around drag pits the nitro was pumped into the air! John Ewald put Clay Smith and his Granddaughter into his two nitro dragsters which was a blast for the Clay Smith family the joke for Clay was he got to get into the ex Chet Herbert Cams top fuel dragster the cam grinder from Buena Park Ca. will never be able to stop his family from the ribbing he got from his wife to all his employee’s who came out to support their boss. I myself had a great time at this event there was no real drag race good! Because I spent most of my time with two great young ladies who were being Santa’s bad girl helpers Riley and Kim tried to keep me out of two much trouble! I know this I got to meet more people at this event and I hope to see a lot of them before next year’s 2008 M@@Neyes Xmas Party. Yes fun was had by everyone they had some great contests going on during the event one being a pin striping contest, a Bombshell Pin Up Girl contest 1st place was a young lady by the name of Jessica, but my vote went to all the ladies who came out for the contest plus all the other young ladies who dressed up 50’s style as there were so many having a blast checking out the cars and guys. Mooneyes also had a live auction to raise money for the local Shriners Children Hospital! The items that went up during the live auction ranged from having Pin striping done your vehicle, custom painted art work on everything from toilet seats, skate boards any anything else that was great artwork items!
Again if you live in area and are into cars and girls you need to make your way to this gathering was great time!

Good Guys 2008 Del Mar Car Show and Cruise
Wow what a awesome turn out of classic, hot rod and muscle cars, it sure appeared like the largest turn out ever in cars and people coming out to check them out as you could barely move inside any of the halls filled with cars! i gave up on taking any photos inside the buildings! I ran into drag racing Hall of Fame Don The Snake Prudhomme along with fellow Hall of Fame Dale Armstrong who were Grand Marshall's Dale had just completed a Falkner V 12 1957 Cadillac for one of his Customers, the Snake had his 1970 Mattel Wynns Jammer Plymouth Barracuda and U S Army Plymouth Arrow on display! two incredible guys along with their cars!

I ran into drag racing Hall of Fame Don The Snake Prudhomme along with fellow Hall of Fame Dale Armstrong who were Grand Marshall's Dale had just completed a Falkner V 12 1957 Cadillac for one of his Customers, the Snake had his 1970 Mattel Wynns Jammer Plymouth Barracuda and U S Army Plymouth Arrow on display! two incredible guys along with their cars!
