2007 Testing Begins on the West Coast

The 2007 drag racing season is fast approaching and the first official testing in southern

California began Sunday at AAA AutoClub Dragway at Ca. Speedway. Over 400 race cars consisting of everything from AA/FA of El Segundo’s Mike Boyd who debuted a brand new T bucket with Mike Sullivan’s drive train out of his transformer AA/FA

Fiat that Gary Reed used to drive, Boyd and Sullivan want to be the first 4 sec. Fuel Altered, Nostalgia VRA dragsters, and Bracket cars. The sky was clear but the air temp was cold. How cold was it well the water over flow for the water box was frozen hey this is So Cal. not Alaska!



Well I wish I could report some incredible times but there were no doctored clocks to lie about! I talked to a few different racers from guys and gals in the So. Cal Dodge Viper Club to a mixture of different cars.



Let’s Start with the Nostalgia racers there was a very large turn out of NE 1 and the hot rod class, but I am sure the cold weather stopped some from showing up.



Mike Boyd only got down the track once out of his two attempts and Mike only made it about two feet if that before smoking the hides hard, this is the same thing that happened to Nate Bugg in his family’s Lil Nate Chevy Monza nostalgia funny car which made only one run and it was the same as Boyd’s run…



One such racing family is the Wimer family racing with there NE 1 dragster with Son Tony driving there brand new car at the GG VRA 06 Finals went to the final round , not bad for 18 year old Tony, who was racing a Jr. dragster earlier in the year. They came out and made three runs and there last two the car died after doing a burn out even with this happening the Wimmer family said hey this is testing better now then at the 2007 March Meet at AAA Auto Club Famoso Raceway!



Long time NE 1 racers Bob “Stormy” Byrd, Dave Gruzen along with many others including Nostalgia Top Fuel driver Rick Rogers was out in his brand new NE 1 Injected BBC Coupe dragster all made runs along with many others!



The Dodge Viper Club had about 16 cars show up to run the Qtr mile the Quickest one being Hugh Hord from DC Performance inc. run a best of 11.75 e.t. Hugh who has run as quick as 10.69 at Ca. Dragway. Hugh ran a match race against racer Lyle Larson and Barbra Van Horne in Larry Monik’s 2007 Viper Convertible but was no match to Hoard’s bright red Viper Coupe. While Lyle Larson ran a best of 12.90 at 115 mph



David Edgar who run’s an ex sand drag Jeep down at Barona drag strip’s 1/8 mile track had never run his Injected World products 427 small block Chevy on the Qtr. Mile, he mad a number of passes. The orange Jeep runs 6.49 e.t. in the1/8 and Dave’s best run

On Sunday was a 10.69 e.t. at 126 mph!



Another different then normal was Bill and Beth Davidson in there great looking 1927 Ford T Coupe with a awesome running small block 350 cubic inch Chevy out of Etiwanda Ca. Bill ran a best of 11.80 e.t. at 109 mph. both Bill and Beth had a great time with there all steel Ford!



Wayne Talkington from Fontana Ca brought out his Lucas Oil T-N-T Racing Semi

And Wayne smoked the hides and ran low 12 s in the big rig.





Steve Bruns had his blown dual Holley Carb’s small block Chevrolet

From nearby riverside Ca. only got to make to runs in his fantastic looking

Bright red 68 Camaro running mid 10’s.



All in all the racers who came out had a great time at the first testing sessions!

The 2007 drag racing season is fast approaching and the first official testing in southern

California began Sunday at AAA AutoClub Dragway at Ca. Speedway. Over 400 race cars consisting of everything from AA/FA of El Segundo’s Mike Boyd who debuted a brand new T bucket with Mike Sullivan’s drive train out of his transformer AA/FA

Fiat that Gary Reed used to drive, Boyd and Sullivan want to be the first 4 sec. Fuel Altered, Nostalgia VRA dragsters, and Bracket cars. The sky was clear but the air temp was cold. How cold was it well the water over flow for the water box was frozen hey this is So Cal. not Alaska!



Well I wish I could report some incredible times but there were no doctored clocks to lie about! I talked to a few different racers from guys and gals in the So. Cal Dodge Viper Club to a mixture of different cars.



Let’s Start with the Nostalgia racers there was a very large turn out of NE 1 and the hot rod class, but I am sure the cold weather stopped some from showing up.



Mike Boyd only got down the track once out of his two attempts and Mike only made it about two feet if that before smoking the hides hard, this is the same thing that happened to Nate Bugg in his family’s Lil Nate Chevy Monza nostalgia funny car which made only one run and it was the same as Boyd’s run…



One such racing family is the Wimer family racing with there NE 1 dragster with Son Tony driving there brand new car at the GG VRA 06 Finals went to the final round , not bad for 18 year old Tony, who was racing a Jr. dragster earlier in the year. They came out and made three runs and there last two the car died after doing a burn out even with this happening the Wimmer family said hey this is testing better now then at the 2007 March Meet at AAA Auto Club Famoso Raceway!



Long time NE 1 racers Bob “Stormy” Byrd, Dave Gruzen along with many others including Nostalgia Top Fuel driver Rick Rogers was out in his brand new NE 1 Injected BBC Coupe dragster all made runs along with many others!



The Dodge Viper Club had about 16 cars show up to run the Qtr mile the Quickest one being Hugh Hord from DC Performance inc. run a best of 11.75 e.t. Hugh who has run as quick as 10.69 at Ca. Dragway. Hugh ran a match race against racer Lyle Larson and Barbra Van Horne in Larry Monik’s 2007 Viper Convertible but was no match to Hoard’s bright red Viper Coupe. While Lyle Larson ran a best of 12.90 at 115 mph



David Edgar who run’s an ex sand drag Jeep down at Barona drag strip’s 1/8 mile track had never run his Injected World products 427 small block Chevy on the Qtr. Mile, he mad a number of passes. The orange Jeep runs 6.49 e.t. in the1/8 and Dave’s best run

On Sunday was a 10.69 e.t. at 126 mph!



Another different then normal was Bill and Beth Davidson in there great looking 1927 Ford T Coupe with a awesome running small block 350 cubic inch Chevy out of Etiwanda Ca. Bill ran a best of 11.80 e.t. at 109 mph. both Bill and Beth had a great time with there all steel Ford!



Wayne Talkington from Fontana Ca brought out his Lucas Oil T-N-T Racing Semi

And Wayne smoked the hides and ran low 12 s in the big rig.





Steve Bruns had his blown dual Holley Carb’s small block Chevrolet

From nearby riverside Ca. only got to make to runs in his fantastic looking

Bright red 68 Camaro running mid 10’s.



All in all the racers who came out had a great time at the first testing sessions!
