Der Edersee im Waldecker Land Geschichte....Die Edertalsperre wurde in den Jahren 1908 bis 1914 von der Fa. Philipp Holzmann AG gebaut, um der Weserschifffahrt und dem Mittellandkanal in den Sommermonaten ausreichend Wasser zuzuführen.
Die Talsperre dient darüber hinaus dem Hochwasserschutz und der Stromerzeugung. An eine touristische Nutzung dachte man damals noch nicht.Beim Bau der Sperrmauer wurden 300 000 Kubikmeter Bruchstein vermauert. Der Bau selbst kostete 7,5 Mio Goldmark, für Grunderwerb und Strassenbau wurden nochmals 17,5 Mio Goldmark aufgewendet.
Durch die Flutung des Edertals verloren 700 Menschen ihre Heimat. Die Dörfer Asel, Bringhausen und Berich (s. Foto) wurden abgetragen und versanken in den Fluten.
Die Bewohner wurden teilweise in Gebiete oberhalb ihrer Dörfer und nach Neu-Berich bei Bad Arolsen umgesiedelt.Bei Niedrigwasser im Herbst kommen Reste der alten Dörfer wieder zum Vorschein.
Dann kann man auf alten Wegen wandern, Mauerreste der alten Bericher Klosterkirche besichtigen und die Ederbrücke von Asel nach Asel-Süd (Foto) überqueren, die sonst unter dem Wasserspiegel liegt.

Bei extrem niedrigem Wasserstand kann man die Überreste der alten Bericher Hütte erkennen, mit einem Modell der Sperrmauer.Am 17. Mai 1943 brach eine kaum für möglich gehaltene Katastrophe herein. Flugzeuge der britischen Armee griffen die Sperrmauer an und eine Rotationsbombe riss ein 70x20 m großes Loch in die Mauer.
160 Mio Kubikmeter Wasser schossen ins Tal und brachten Tod und Verderben.

In den Fluten starben 68 Menschen, allein im Kreis Waldeck wurden 213 Gebäude verstört. Die Ernte war vernichtet, sämtliche Brücken wurden von den Wassermassen weggerissen.
Bereits nach vier Monaten war das Loch wieder geschlossen.

Von 1990-1994 fanden umfangreiche Sanierungsarbeiten statt.
Damit ist die Talsperre fit für die nächsten 80-100 Jahre
