Cam / Timing Belt replacement

How to replace the Timing Belt, Water Pump, Tensioning Roller, and Tensioning Dampener on the Mk1 | Audi TT 225 Quattro | AMU.

A Timing Belt Replacement kit was purchased with all the necessary parts including Timing Belt, Water Pump, Tensioning Roller, Tensioning Dampener, Ribbed (accessory) Belt, and Replacement Engine Mount Bolts.

Tools recommended include:
Bentley Publishers Audi TT Service Manual (book or CD), Torque Wrench (3/8" drive recommended), Floor Jacks (2 minimum), Jack Stands (3 minimum), Tool Set including ratchet / extensions / wrenches / metric sockets (various lengths) / hex bit sockets / torx drivers / allen wrenches, Wheel Chocks (2), Small Clamps, and a digital camera to document your progress in case you need to go back and review how it was originally installed.

Supplies recommended include:
3 Liters of VW/Audi G-012 Coolant Antifreeze, 3 Liters of Distilled Water, 1/2-gallon size clear plastic pitcher (for mixing distilled water and Coolant), 1 Liter of VW/Audi G-004 Power Steering Fluid (a lot less is needed), Loctite high temperature Threadlocker, Bucket & Hose to drain coolant (hose ID approximately 10mm), Shop Towels/Rags, Plastic Bags, Zip Ties, Rubber Stoppers (to plug coolant and power steering hoses), Marking Pen (Red China Marker), and an Abrasive Pad (ScotchBrite).

NOTES:
- Recheck and verify Coolant level until satisfied. In total I added 4 ½ quarts. A chart of Antifreeze Protection Levels can be found on Bentley Manual page 03-26.
- Check Power Steering fluid reservoir after driving vehicle.

DV Relocation and GReddy BOV/DV installation

SFS DV-Relocation hose Installed in place of Upper Turbo hose on Driver's side of engine. I also replaced my Hyperboost DV with a GReddy RS BOV converted to a DV.

Fire Extinguisher Mount

Fire Extinguisher bracket fabricated and mounted in the MK1 Audi TT.

Tools recommended:
- T-30 Torx driver (to remove 2 - OE bottom bolts on Knee Brace)
- Dremel with cutting blade and sanding wheel
- Drill and 15/64" bit
- 5mm allen wrench or socket
- 10mm wrench or socket

Supplies recommended:
- 1: 1/16" thick Aluminum sheet, 13.5" long x 4" wide
- 1: 90-degree 1/16" thick Aluminum, 15.75" long and 1.5" wide each side
- 2: 6mm x 1.00 bolts, 30mm long
- 4: 6mm x 1.00 bolts, 12mm long
- 6: Stainless Washers
- 4: 6mm x 1.00 lock nuts
- 1: Fire Extinguisher (model appropriate for automotive use)
- 1: Vinyl door-edge self-adhering Molding, approx. 22" long

Grounding

A total of 5 Grounding Cables were made and installed.

Cables were installed in following locations:
1. Right Fender to Engine
2. Engine to Throttle Body
3. Engine to Transmission
4. Transmission to Negative Battery Terminal
5. Negative Battery Terminal to Left Fender

Intake Manifold - Polished

Intake Manifold polished. Tools needed include a palm sander and a dremel. All grits of sandpaper used from 60 to 2000. Polishing was done with a bench grinder with buffing wheel and a dremel.

Zoop Seal was used as a finish to eliminate the need for polishing for up to 2 years. ZoopSeal is a hybrid ceramic sealer, it is not a polish or wax. It is rated for temps up to 400-degrees F.

- 2 M6 x 1.00 SS hex-head bolts 35-40mm long - for center supports
- 8 M6 x 1.00 SS hex-head bolts 16-20mm long
- 20 SS 6mm flat washers
- 10 SS 6mm lock washers
- 10 SS 6mm x 1.00 nuts
NOTE: Self Tapping SS screws can be used in place of above list.

Tools needed:
- Drill and 6mm drill bit (15/64" will work) for drilling holes in splitter and bumper
- 10mm wrench and 10mm deep socket
- Painters Tape
- Ruler
- Dremel with grinding / sanding tip
