It was another year, 2008. Once again I had put off in 2007 what I intended to do. I really wanted to get this hair book information on paper as a whole. The grief from the loss of my father had been lifted for some time. There was still some sadness, another kind of grief. A sadness for something that I was starting to regret and wished I had done - write a hair book.
My friend Caroline called and told me to write down the information that I had been giving away and put it all in one place. It was the nudge I needed.
You know you are on track when you get so immersed in something that the time flies by. Or, you feel giddy and excited about what you're doing. I felt all of this as I cut and pasted.
Once I got this image down and the format, the rest started rolling and falling into place. It wasn't easy to get the interior written but it sure was satisfying.
This is how I started with this book. I made a $20 dollar investment in the colored construction paper, the glue and the journal/book. By no means is this the finished book...the point is I got started.
I let go of trying to do and be perfect. I let go of worrying about what people might think, what they might say. I let go of wondering whether or not I had something new or different to bring to the hair care discussion.
If I had not let go of all these things, I couldn't have moved forward.
I started with what I had - what was in my head- and went from there.
Just like I did with my hair...I do believe in excellence....but not in perfection.
When you release your focus on perfection, it is quite freeing.
I left the mess at my feet and just created. It was fun and refreshing.
I hope this little album inspires you to at least consider wiping the dust off those dreams and those ideas. Pull them out of hiding and off the back burner.
You never know where a desire or a dream can take you - unless you follow it!
