ARCA - Automobile Racing Club of America

ARCA, which was founded as MARC, in Toledo, Ohio in 1953 was primarily a mid-west sanctioning body, although as time has gone by, they have expanded all over the country. ARCA has exceptionally good racing, I usually enjoy watching ARCA more than Cup, even. Unfortunatly, they don't get every race on TV, and while ARCA diecast was fairly popular in the 1990s, since the turn of the century ARCA diecast has really dropped off.

ASA - American Speed Association

The ASA does not actually race stock cars- they race late models. Technically, most of the bodies are wrong here, but it's close enough, so it counts. Action and Racing Champions both tooled up ASA specific Camaro bodies, I have most of them, but not all, and I can't find the Racing Champions Camaros I do/did have.

Drag Racing

I enjoy drag racing, but can't get fanatical about it. It's over practically before it begins.

Formula 1 (F1)

For being the supposed most popular form of motorsports in the world, they certainly don't have a lot of diecast...

Indy Cars

Cars that race in the Indy 500 and other races in that series. I know I have more than are shown here, the question is, where?

IROC

International Race of Champions

The concept of IROC was sound- various drivers from the world of motorsports brought togther to race in identically prepared cars. Unfortunatly, 2006 was the final year for IROC.

Modifieds

Includes NASCAR modifieds, DIRT and others.

I have had several relatives who ran modifieds. None of their cars were made, though.

Monster Trucks

I became a Monster Truck fan in 1986, but it's not what it once was. It used to be real racing...nowadays, you know what will happen before you even turn it on. Grave Digger will either win, flip, or both, and if Grave Digger doesn't win, Tom Meents will.

I've actually been to Monster Truck events several times and met quite a few of the big names, like Dennis Anderson, Tom Meents, Lyle Hancock, lots more.

When Hot Wheels started the new line, still going, in the early 2000s, I got most of the real trucks, but I stopped when they switched to the large, out of scale tires. That was also about when I got fed up with the current state of the sport, too.

I do have a lot more...of the early stuff. Just need to locate it.

Monster Trucks- Fantasy Trucks

In the late 1980s and early 90s, Monster Trucks were HUGE. Many, many companies were making fantasy trucks, from Matchbox, to Soma, to Zylmex and in between. When Hot Wheels started their line in the 2000s, they also issued fantasy trucks.

Now...the problem is, I have been away from the sport for a while. I don't remember all of the many real trucks that were out there, some of them were quite obscure in real life. Some of them in this album MAY be real trucks. If I have any in here, that WERE real trucks, please leave a comment and let me know.
Thanks!

Other Forms of Motorsports

Kinds of racing I don't have enough of to give them an album. Examples: Rally, Hill Climb, etc.

Peripherals

Haulers, pace cars, anything that isn't an actual race car but is a real racing related vehicle.

All other forms of motorsports combined.

Road Racing

Mostly Trans Am. I love this kind of racing...currently #2 for me behind NASCAR.

Sprint Cars

I have always loved the sprints, and I was able to attend the 2008 World of Outlaws event at Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, NY, not knowing at the time, it would be the last race they held there. Terry McCarl won, which was cool because his #27, Steve Kinser's #11, Jac Haudenschild's #22 and Mike Peters' #66 were the first 4 Sprints I got, back in 1993. I was able to meet all but Peters that night! I got the car Terry drove to the win, although the diecast company got the roll bars color wrong. Unfortunatly I couldn't afford to get all the sprint cars and all the NASCAR issues that were done, and when it comes down to it, NASCAR wins.

USAC Stock Cars

USAC's stock car division ran through the 1950s and into the 1970s. I'm not sure exactly when it started or ended. USAC, which stands for United States Auto Club, was the archenemy of NASCAR back in the 50s and 60s, and was also it's biggest competitor. When driver were banned, or just fueding by/with Bill France, USAC was usually where they went. USAC also sanctioned the Indianapolis 500 and was more into open wheel than stock cars.

USAR Hooters Pro Cup

The USAR series was another stock car sanctioning body in operation for at least the late 90s through early 2000s. I don't know exactly when it stopped and started, but I don't think they are still racing. The only diecast produced for this series was a set of 4 cars from Action in 1997.
