Individual Models

Models that I have built that have enough photos to warrent their own album. Usually if I have 10 photos or more, or if I plan to photo document the buildup, it gets it's own album. Also, multi-part projects will go into here, too, like my Carl Edwards Project.

Models I've built for other people
It's pretty rare, but occasionally I will build cars for people. I personally don't think that I have enough skills to be doing that, but if the person they end up with are happy, I guess that is what matters!

Building the cars that won Rookie of the year in NASCAR...Mostly Cup, but may throw in some Busch and trucks, decals providing.

I am creating the albums now with a reference photo, the build to be added later.

1947 Chevrolet Fleetline Sedan Delivery

Built from the Galaxie Limited kit. Really a great kit, I don't know why you don't see many built up.

I had originally started this build because I wanted a truck for a very special project, but then I realized that a Pickup would be better suited.
So it sat.
Then, a whole series of threads on the Hobby Heaven message board popped up about the Galaxie Chevys and how you never see them built. So I pulled it out and started working on the engine.
But, I lost intrest, and...It sat.
Then, Jairus Watson posted on the Model Cars Magazine message board that Galaxie wants to see some builds to possibly appear in future magazine ads.
So, I pulled it out, with the yellow painted on the body, and the engine half assembled.
I then finished it, in 2 days!

And lo and behold, it is one of my best ones ever. It came out better then I could possibly have imagined.
It is also the 200th model I have ever built. All since November 1999!
The paint is MML Phoenician Yellow and Bright Platinum Metallic, under a coat of MML clear. (MML=Model Master Lacquer)
The wheel detail is one of my favorite parts of the build. The wheels are the same gray as the body, but they were not clearcoated, and the Chevrolet and designs on the wheels were painted Guards Red and the excess wiped off. It came out exactly as I hoped it would, and to me that is the finishing touch, that really sets it off looking fine. It was also the last thing I did on the build :)

1948 Ford Woody Custom

This is my first attempt at a major custom! It started out as a Revell 48 Ford Woody, and it's not going to look like it when I'm done!
I've already removed the roof and opened both front doors! I also plan to take the engine and possibly suspension from a Mustang kit.
I'm still debating weather or not to remove the trim and the wheel/tire combo is up in the air at this point.

Update 3/2008-
I bit off a little more then I could chew here with this project. I tried to cut out the wood panels to be replaced with real wood. It didn't kill the project, but it's left me with somewhat of a bad taste for the project. Also, I still have more then half the body to deal with, and it's made the body pretty weak where the panels have been removed. For now, it sits.

1958 Edsel Convertible
Nov 10, 2008

As is somewhat well known, I am a diehard Edsel fan, and I hope to have a real one some day. I have built a few already and decided that I wanted to make a convertible out of one of them. I decided, after removing the top, that this was going to be an all-out project, so I removed the grill to be replaced with an item from the Model Car Garage. The boot is going to come from the Modelhaus. I am still debating opening the trunk-I think I can do that, but I don't know if I could come up with the interior of the trunk. I am also considering changing it from a Pacer into a Ranger, and even a slight possibility that it may get the wheelbase stretched into a Citation or Corsair....but I'll probably save that for a future project...

1963 #13 Johnny Rutherford Chevrolet Impala

The only win in NASCAR's top level division for a car #13 in history, prepared by the Legendary Smokey Yunick and driven to victory in the twin 125s by Johnny Rutherford. It was also Johnny's first ever start in the Top Series, and in those days, the Twins counted...so Johnny is the last driver credited with winning his first career start, as well.
Kit is the Model King 1993ish issue, with all trim removed (Smokey didn't leave anything!) and decals by DSAO. Roll cage is a combination of scratchbuilt and Plastic Performance Products. Wheels and tires from Modelhaus.
Very special thanks to Hugh Boulden on this build!

1963 #3 Junior Johnson Holly Farms Chevrolet Impala

This is a model I've wanted to do for a long time.

I decided to repurpose a model I had started years ago, but came out with a bad paint job. I expected it to be red, it came out pink. Also got a few runs in it. Now, that nasty thing that has been sitting in my basement for more than half a decade will be reborn as something far, far cooler.

Junior drove this car in 1963, making it the 5th car from the 1963 season I've started, three finished so far.

This car was the car that Richard Childress idolized, and why he chose #3 when it became available (He had been running 96 and 98 previously), so it's this car that is the reason Dale Earnhardt and the 3 became so famous togther.

1964 Chevrolet Impala

This was on par to be my best build ever, until I dropped it in the snow. It's based off the Revell Lowrider (built stock) and is probably the best kit I have ever laid my hands on. I even took the time to BMF it, something I rarely do.

1966 #65 Jim Hall Chaparral 2D Coupe

COMPLETE!!
Built from the Monogram SSP issue in 2004. It's a tiny kit in a great huge box! While all I've done so far is test fit, I can't wait to build this ex-slot car!

It's now done, and it was just as fun to build as I thought it would be!

1969 #5 Buddy Arrington Dodge Charger Daytona

COMPLETE!!!
In 1969, Dodge was easily winning the Aero-war with it's fabulous Daytona. My all time favorite vehicle. It was a purpose built car for NASCAR, although there were several campaigned in the Drag Racing world too. And of course, per NASCAR rules street versions had to be built too.
Buddy Arrington, an independent driver and one of the mainstays of the Dodge camp, campaigning one long after he had factory support into the 1980s, had himself a winged Daytona too. Unfortunately, in a nasty wreck on the track, Buddy was injured and the car was totaled. The force of the impact snapped the wing, leading Dodge to put a tether into it to keep the middle from flying off in a wreck! That detail won't be on my build though.
When these decals were printed, the roof and door numbers were printed incorrectly and the white underlays were not included. I took matters into my own hands, and brush painted the white. It was very hard to do but the effort was well worth it.
I am also building this car as a combination of several real cars, with a little creative license thrown in. I used the kit supplied stripe, which on the 1:1 did not go onto the trunk. From my reference, the car also did not run with the full contingencies and the sponsor, but I included them both anyway. Buddy could have used the extra sponsorship, I think.

My all time favorite car, my first build up of it is, what else, a NASCAR. This was the first time I painted photo-etch. Thanks to Bart of the Hobby Heaven board who sent me the NASCAR parts of the previous issue of the kit!

Update: At around 3:30 AM on May 29th, I successfully scratchbuilt something for the first time EVER! See pictures 8-16 in the folder!

The car is now done! It turned out great, better then I could ever have expected. I used resin wheels and tires, another first for me.
Now I want to do more Darkside cars, and I want to do a few more of Buddy's too...just got to find the decals!!

1970 Camaro- Charlie car

Back in 2000, I joined the Model Car List, a yahoogroup (then egroups) for model cars. At that year's Christmas exchange, Charlie Kroll pulled my name and mailed me this car. Eventually Charlie became my best friend, and throughout the past decade he's asked me several times when would I build the Camaro? Well. now I did. I finished it on May 2nd, 2010, 10 years after getting it in the mail.

I had originally painted it silver, but when I saw the green on another project, I decided the Camaro would look better green than silver, so I painted the green right over the top of the silver!

1974 #06 Neil Soapy Castles Kimball Music Centers Dodge Charger

First, let me say that I am primarily a 1:64 collector, and that is the main reason I am a fan of Soapy's, he was long retired by time I came around. Back in 1992 and 1993, I did not have many Superbirds. (Note: I called Dodge Daytonas AND Plymouth Superbirds "Superbirds" at the time, and I usually still do) My mom brought me home this one, and it was my third 'bird. But, I lost it. I was terribly upset at the time, as I had lost my new pride and joy! I was on a hunt to find another copy. It was a hard item to find! But, before I could find a new one, the original one was located under the couch, and it was not damaged save a little dusty. I was so happy. Ever since that ordeal, I have been a fan of Soapy Castles! And hey, I was only 8 or 9 at the time, and I am sure the name Soapy had something to do with it :) That original 1:64 Daytona still holds a proud spot in my collection, as does the slightly improved 1998 issue. I should note that I now have every 1:64 Winged NASCAR ever produced. It's not many, but there weren't that many in 1:1 either.
On to this build. This one doesn't hold hardly any meaning to me like the Daytona does, but this one was available in decal and the Daytona is not! It's basically the same paint scheme, and if I can ever figure out the consarned Polar Lights chassis it will be built!

Finally building a car of one of my favorite 70s drivers!

1982 #11 Darrell Waltrip Mountain Dew Buick

COMPLETE!
In 1982, Darrell Waltrip continued his successful partnership with Junior Johnson and Mountain Dew. And successful it was, as DW won more then once on his was to his second consecutive Championship (which was followed up with a third in 1985).
When I got the kit I knew right away that I would build it as the Mountain dew car. Simple one-color painting and my favorite (and besides an occasional root beer) and only carbonated drink I drink.
If I had known how bad the kit decals were, that decision may not have been so easy. The 2003 reissue has horrible decals (didn't stop me from buying 4 more sets though) and I wish I had waited, as I purchased an original (1994) issue from Ken Uhler and the decals are clearly much better. Live and learn.

Built from the Monogram 2003 issue. Kit decals.

1983 #3 Ricky Rudd Piedmont Airlines Chevrolet Monte Carlo

COMPLETE!!
A #3 owned by Richard Childress and not driven by himself or Dale Earnhardt. Not an easy thing to find. But it happened, in 1982 and 1983, and this car represents Ricky Rudd's Piedmont Airlines Chevrolet. I liked this scheme alot the first time I saw it, and when I found the decals in Toledo I knew what the other half of the first (and at the time only) DW Combo kit. After that it was just basically box stock. My reference hoed some different decal locations then the Slixx reference sheet, and I went with the reference. Unfortunately only one of the Piedmont logos for the wheels worked.
I believe this car holds some history, too. Besides being likely the last #3 car not driven by Dale Earnhardt, it "won"* the pole for IIRC the first three races of the 1983 season.

*At the Daytona 500, Cale Yarbrorough put up a record speed, but flipped his car on the second qualifying lap, and at the time the car got the record, and when it was wrecked, Rudd, who qualified second, became the pole sitter.

Built from the other half of the first Darrell Waltrip combo (of which I have 4) and Slixx decals.

1985 #22 Bobby Allison Miller American Buick

COMPLETE! The model was completed on 3/28/06.

The 1985 season was an interesting one for Bobby Allison. He started the year with DiGard, the team he had driven for quite a while. But mid-season, Bobby left to form his own team. This is the car he ran while with DiGard, his last starts with that team (which is more well known for the #88 Gatorade cars, which Bobby also drove, I have the 1982 version in progress) and I really don't know much more about it. All I have learned has been posted on the Randy Ayers NASCAR board.
I do know it has gold foil decals, which I described in my original briefing as amazing...which is still an understatement.

Amazing real gold foil decals, and a rare well done masking job!

1987 #56 Ernie Irvan Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet Chevy Monte Carlo

COMPLETED
As far as I know, this is the first car Ernie Irvan drove in Winston Cup competition, and it was sponsored by Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet in Newton, NC. I have this car in 1:64, so again it leads me to wanting to build a model! The fact that I am a big fan of Ernie Irvan helps, too.

One of the cars I've always dreamed of making! Now I can.
This is the first NASCAR I've ever built that had a finished chassis before a finished body! I got the decals on 3/30/05, painted it and started the chassis. Finished the chassis on 3/31/05 but didn't do anything on it on 4/1/05. Will be decaled on 4/2/05 and it will be my fastest project!

1988 Brad Noffsinger

I have been trying to have these decals made up since I began building models. They were finally issued in 2014 and I had to start building!

This build is also special to me because it's going to be the first NASCAR build after I got diabetes. That was a huge life changing event, nearly a life ending event, so the fact that I'm actually able to build again is a big deal for me. At times it seemed like I wouldn't be able to again.

Finished on 5/26/14

1990 #6 Mark Martin Folgers Ford Thunderbird

COMPLETE!!
In 1990, Mark Martin should have won the Championship. In fact, he really did. I don't buy into NASCAR conspiracy theories 99% of the time, but this time it cannot be denied. Mark was penalized IIRC 46 points for an infraction that PASSED pre-race inspection, and would not have given him an advantage anyway. He lost the championship to Dale Earnhardt by around 20 points.
When I got the kit, I knew I had to build it. To commemorate the championship that was taken away from Mark Martin, and because the car is so darn cool. Everyone says to use Kiln red. I don't agree. Based on the pictures in several publications, and the boxart alone, Kiln red is too light a color. Model Master Burgundy, however, is a perfect match to the boxart photo. The kit is molded in red, and spraying the Burgundy over it worked perfectly. Perhaps primer would have darkened it beyond accuracy, I do not know as I do not use primer as a general rule.
Also of note, if you attempt this kit, make sure you have two copies of the decal sheet. Besides the fact that it's somewhat finicky, it is missing two parts. The gold striping along the side went over the windows. The windows should absolutely be in before decaling. But the stripes should also go along the door sill on the driver side, and over the passenger side window (if used) as well. The kit decals do not include this, and to build a truly accurate replica you need a second set. I did not discover this until the decals were dry. By that point it was too late, as the supplemental stripes need to be done at the same time, so they can be positioned under the contingencies.
My best paint job ever to date.

1991 #42 Kyle Petty Mello Yello Pontiac Grand Prix

COMPLETE!!
This was my first attempt at masking a two tone paint job. It worked, but not overly well! I was always a fan of this car, and that's why I chose to build it, even though I had never attempted a multi-color scheme with spraypainting before!
This scheme ran basically unchanged between 1991 (the first year, this car represents that) and 1994, when it was replaced by Coors Light in 1995. I have been told, although I do not know if this is true or not, that Mello Yello executives liked the way their car looked in the movie Days of Thunder and the decided to keep it on the track!
I later discovered that this car, in it's 1993 livery, was on the pole for the very first race I ever saw!
Kind of interesting that the very first car I more then likely saw in 1:1 was the first car I masked and painted two different colors.
It didn't turn out like I had hoped, but for a first try it turned out pretty good.
Also of note is that it was molded in black, and the interior and green were painted right over the bare plastic. The green took two coats, though.
Both were Tamiya paints.

1991 #72 Tracy Leslie Detroit Gasket Oldsmobile Cutlass

COMPLETE!!
This is the first time I've ever attempted to document one of my build-ups. The decals were made by Blue Ridge and the car started out as the Dinner Bell Olds. Was painted with Tamiya Italian Red right over the yellow plastic. It was started on 9/1/04 and finished on 9/12/04, save the right rear window and sponsor decal, as I am missing the window and the decal goes over it!
Thanks to Mark Jeffries, the window is now in place and the car is truly finished! It has been since last year,(04) but I never updated the briefing!
This is another car that comes directly from 1:64 scale memories. When I was little, about 9, when I first got the car I thought the driver's name was Tracy Lacy, and for the longest time I called him that. No longer, but the memory of that is the main reason I built this car as soon as I could.
I should note that the chassis is totally wrong for the car. It was red in 1:1, but since I had no reference material whatso ever, I automatically assumed it was gray. I have been debating building a red chassis, and giving this one to my Jeff Burton TIC Financial build, but I cannot commit to that at this time.

1993 #46 Al Unser Jr. Valvoline Chevrolet Lumina

COMPLETE!!
In 1993, Al Unser Jr. came over to test his hands at NASCAR. He didn't fare well. This car was run in the Twin 125s, and was wrecked. Then, he ran Ken Schrader's backup car in the 500, and wrecked again. He didn't make any more forays into stock car racing.
I have been chasing after this car in 1:64 scale since 1993, and I have STILL not been able to find it. Yet again 1:64 has influenced my model building. I have so many more still left to make that are influenced by it, too, so it will be in more briefings I'm sure.
I am not sure this car ever was televised. The first NASCAR I ever saw on TV was the Daytona 500, and it was not in that race. (the 500 car was white and green) and I can honestly say I don't remember seeing either of them. It was a long long time ago. And sometimes it feels like a galaxy far far away, too ;)

One of my "grails" to build. Using a Terry Labonte kit, and unknown decals, possibly Chimneyville...
My first car that was masked 3 colors!

1993 #55 Ted Musgrave USAir/Jasper Engines Ford Thunderbird

Another car for my "Project 93". That is my project to build every single car from the 1993 season I can find decals for, culminating in the full field in scale of the Daytona 500, which was the first race I ever saw.
Quite an ambitious project.
I do not remember this car running in real life. ( I was 8 at the time!) But, like I said below in my original briefing, it fits into 3 of my now 5 Multi-build projects. (Just today, 5/27/05, I added a scale collection of Elliott Sadler cars).
And, being a Ted Musgrave car, I had to build it, and it won out over 4 other white Fords for the body (89 Ernie Irvan, Jeff Gordon Baby Ruth and Dick Trickle Carolina Pottery) but once I got the Ted Musgrave decals I decided that it was really no contest.
These decals were hard. Not just hard, but difficult. They needed Micro-sol to conform, but yet they did not react well to Micro-sol either. It was a constant battle when applying them, but it looks good and was worth it in the long run.

Kit is a 1995-issue 1992 Mark Martin Ford and Blue Ridge decals. I love Blue Ridge but boy were they hard to apply! This also falls into my Jasper project and Ted Musgrave projects as well. Nice to have one car fit into three separate multi-piece projects!

1993 #90 Bobby Hillin Heilig-Meyers Ford Thunderbird

Now this car, I remember. Probably due to it's rather unique paint scheme. Green is my favorite color, and while this is not quite green, it's certainly close.
Texan Bobby Hillin Jr. drove this car, and frankly I do not remember how he did in it, I just remember seeing it. It left a mark, and now here is the build.
I really have to get back to it. The body is complete. Even though Blue Ridge did not include the Winston Cup and NASCAR logos, I added them on (which I also did with the Ted Musgrave car) and I just have to build up the chassis. This has been sitting since 2004, and it's a shame as it's just pure laziness that keeps me from finishing what is going to be a very cool, very rarely built car. It is being built off one of the Ernie Irvan Mac Tools cars I have, and is molded in yellow. The paint covered it perfectly, something I was not so sure on when I did it, if it was going to!

I always liked this paint scheme, and when I got the decals I knew I would build it. It's a 1994 Ernie Irvan Mac Tools kit, painted with Model Master Lacquer Tropical Turquoise, and decaled with Blue Ridge decals, with a little help from Cherry Run.

1995 #3 Dale Earnhardt Silver Winston car

COMPLETE!!
In 1995, Dale Earnhardt and his team kicked off a trend that really has revolutionized the entire NASCAR world, in just ten short years.
At Phoenix, in 1994, Fred Wagenhols came to Dale Earnhardt and Richard Childress with an idea that was solely to help him sell more die-casts. Wagonhals is the founder of Racing Champions AND Action. The idea was to turn the Man in Black to the Man in Silver. Eventually, Dale agreed, and the silver marvel, known to many as the Silver Select car, was run at the Winston. Unfortunately, Dale crashed out, but that really doesn't matter. The diecast sold out almost immediately, within hours, and suddenly teams realized they could make more revenue if they sold more diecasts, and easiest way was to run multiple schemes. Now, instead of an occasional rarity, it is the norm. Some teams run so many schemes it is hard to remember what the basic scheme is!
After Dale's tragic death in 2001, Revell made three kits in it's Dale Earnhardt Collection. (and I suppose it could be argued the currently available 90 Lumina is part as well)
You had the rarest of the three, the 1987 Wrangler Monte Carlo (of which the Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet sponsored car is built from), the second hardest to find (the Silver car) and the run-of the mill Daytona 500 winner kit. The 87 car got hard to find really quickly. It was issued in 2002, and I started building in 2004, and it's already near-impossible to find, and it cannot be found locally, it must be mail ordered.
Anyway, for years, I have been a NASCAR fan, but not a builder. I did not want to make them look crappy by brush painting them. But once I learned to spray paint, I started building NASCARs (completely coincidentally on Dale's birthday) with this kit. I for some reason decided to open the trunk. I had never successfully done that before, and have only done it one more time since. But it worked. And the model came out great. And I have not looked back since!
My mom ordered me one of every decal Slixx had left, and I have been buying as many as I can that I don't already have, and it's all thanks to this car.
It's funny. The car was built a little more then a year ago. But when I look at it now, it was down right crude compared to what I build now, and this has only been in a year's time. Perhaps someday I will even build cars good enough that they are held in regard like Bill Coulter's, Clay Kemp's, Michael Madlinger's and other...
I have a long, long LONG way to go first.
Also of note, is that this was the first build ever to get it's own folder in the Individual models section. I created this section when I realized I had more pictures of this one car in the main album then all the others combined (back in August 04 when I joined Fotki).
Much of the information was pulled from an article in Beckett Racing Monthly and my own knowledge, and memory of the car.

The car Dale Earnhardt drove at The Winston in 1995. Largly (but incorrectly) sited as the first ever special paint scheme.

1995 Brett Bodine- Jerry Sims Memorial Build

My friend Jerry passed away recently, and I ended up becoming friends with his son on Facebook. His son ended up sending me one of the kits Jerry never got the chance to even open, and I have chosen to build the 1995 Brett Bodine car with it- fitting, I think, as it was Junior Johnson's final Cup car. I will build it to the best of my ability, with the only difference from the real race car being that I will include one of the "Ol' Redneck Racecars" decals- Jerry's logo- that made it onto a couple of JNJ sheets in the late 80s or early 90s on the dashboard.

1997 #07 Tammy Jo Kirk Lovable Ford F-150

COMPLETE!!
This is a truck that again comes from a 1:64. When I learned this was made by Racing Champions, I had to hunt it down (The Racing Champions version is numbered 7) and when I have to hunt something, I usually end up finding out more information about something, and other odd facts and trivia about it. I believe, but am not certain, that Tammy Jo was the first female to race in the truck series. I am not 100% sure on that, Teri MacDonald of Canada may have come first.
This was the first Supertruck I started, but it has gone dormant because I discovered that the decals were meant for a Revell kit, NOT an AMT kit. I discovered that during the decal process.
It's also the only truck I have sponsored by Bras. Come to think of it, I don't have any cars with that sponsorship either, LOL!
When I showed this truck to some non-model building friends, I took quite a ribbing for making a pink truck. They just would not hear of it being Dusty Rose Pearl. This was the first (not only anymore) NASCAR that I purchased specifically for it the paint that was used.
This was also the first build of mine that was commented on Not in a message board or modeling event setting!
Built using an AMT Doug George Ortho kit and Slixx decals. It's my first Supertruck build.

1998 #94 Bill Elliott McDonald's NASCAR 50th Anniversary Ford Taurus

In 1998 NASCAR celebrated it's 50th Birthday in style the entire season. Fan favorite Bill Elliott got in on the action as well when he ran a gold car. I don't recall the real car being gold plated, I recall it being a gold color. But I couldn't pass up the opportunity to make a gold chrome NASCAR! Maybe eventually I will make one like I remember the 1/1 to be.

2000 #32 Scott Pruett Tide Give Kids the World Ford Taurus

In 2000, Tide and Give Kids the World continued their long relationship. Scott Pruett ran only one full season in NASCAR, in Cal Well's #32 Tide Fords. The car was a dark metallic purple over black. I replicated it by laying on 4 coats of the Model Master Lacquer Ultraviolet pearl, and it's the most paint I've ever put onto a car!
The decals are awesome, as usual, with JWTBM.

2004 #01 Joe Nemechek Army/Time Person of the Year Chevy Monte Carlo

COMPLETE!!
I am not a real big fan of Joe Nemechek, but I like the team he drives for, and the paint job was neat. The only paint on the body is the black.
The amazing quality of the decals really helps. I will build anything with that quality!
I do think this is my best work. It will be my first model to go to more then two shows.
Amazing decals. I think they are the best I ever used. If only I hadn't ruined the hood decal...

2004 #06 Travis Kvapil Mobil 1/Jasper Engines Dodge Intrepid

COMPLETE!!
In 2005 Travis Kvapil is running for rookie of the year in the Nextel Cup series, but in 2004 he ran a total of 4 races in a 4th Penske Dodge. I'm upset that Brendan Gaughan got fired, but I have learned from my past mistakes and am not holding it against Travis.
When I saw these decals were available, I knew it was a perfect opportunity to build an XRC (A term I take from the trading card industry, referring to a card, usually of limited production that is not a college card but is not a true rookie card either). Just change Card to Car and College to Craftsman Truck Series and you get the idea.
Oh and did I mention that it's fairly obscure? The black was all brush painted. And yes, for some odd reason I super glued a penny to it.
No real reason why.
I never said I wasn't strange :)

Finally built a 03-04 Dodge! Turned out incredibly well!
Has NASCALS, JWTBM, JB Grafix, Racescale and Slixx.

2004 #23 Dave Blaney Whelen Dodge

The car only ran one race, the 2004 Daytona 500. Thanks to the excellent Racescale Decals sheet, this is one of the most useable sheets I've ever used. It's perfect! To expand a little on that, it was the first time I had really experienced the true power of Cartograph. So much better then it's closest competitors. I have always been a fan of Dave's and I'm glad he now has a top notch ride with RCR. If only he would stop running into things....

2004 #24 Jeff Gordon DuPont Chevrolet Darlington Wreck

COMPLETE!!
This is going to be something like I've never done before...

In the spring 2004 Darlington race, Jeff Gordon t-boned the #80 car. I had a chassis that I was building as a wreck with no basic purpose other then to be a wreck.
Then I got the inspiration.
I realized I was using a Jeff Gordon kit's chassis, and the decals are so horrible the car couldn't be built normal with them, so why not?
I am using some creative license, and building the car as it is after it was taken back to the garage and the crew started tearing it down (and apart!) to put it onto the trailer to bring it home.
I am debating making a base and including the back of the rig. (I have now decided against that)
I should let it be known that I am a Jeff Gordon fan, and did not build this out of spite or hatred of the driver. Hatred for the kit decals yes, driver no.

2004 #43 Jeff Green Cheerios Dodge Intrepid

COMPLETE! 11/10/05
Jeff Green is currently struggling to take the famous #43, now owned by Richard Petty, back to the top. So far, it's not working well.
The main reason I built this is because I like the new Dodges and the decals were awesome.
This is one of the 2003/04 Dodges, quickly becoming one of my favorite NASCAR kit bodys. This was also probably the best decals I've ever used. Wetworks are amazing! The only paint on the car is the yellow!

2004 #6 Mark Martin Viagra Ford Taurus

After my last experience with an AMT NASCAR, I doubted I would build another. But then the BAD Scale racing board had it's AMT Challenge, I decided to build it. Mainly because it was the only AMT New NASCSR I had handy. I must have been crazy. Nothing fits or ever works right, the decals were horrible and I've pretty much given up.
This is being build with the AMT kit. This is being built as the BAD forum build for the Daytona 500 2005 deadline. I'm actually in on the ground floor for this one! This was also my 600th model in my collection. The 500th was the Silver Dale Earnhardt found elsewhere on My Fotki.

2004 #8 Martin Truex Jr. Bass Pro Shops/Tracker Boats Chevrolet

COMPLETE!!
In 2004 Martin Truex Jr. started out planning to run only a limited schedule, but more sponsorship materialized and he ended up running the full season under the Chance 2 banner (It's really a DEI car). That paid off as Martin took home a handful of wins and the series championship over Kyle Busch. While this is not the car Martin ran all season (He ran, if I recall correctly, 8 different cars) this is the one that was run the most, and the one I most associate with Martin (Besides the two-race only Long John Silver's car, which is my favorite, as LJS is my favorite fast food, build of that one is in the works) and this car, with some major tweaks, is his full-season car for 2005. I bet Bass Pro Shops and Tracker Boats were happy they decided to sponsor NASCAR's first Champion from New Jersey. In fact, they are sponsoring his 2005 Busch effort and his limited Cup effort leading to running for rookie of the year in 2006.

My first use of ALPS decals. Nice, nice stuff.

2004 BGN Champion car.

2005 #0 Mike Bliss NetZero/Best Buy Chevrolet Monte Carlo

At the end of 2004, Ward Burton parted ways with Haas, and Mike Bliss was tapped to fill the role, and it's seeming to be a better fit then Ward was with the team, as Mike has been running really well this year, and I think he has a legitimate shot at winning his first career Cup race. He could have, and should have, won the Winston Open* if Brian Vickers did not punt him out of the way.

* Yes I still call it the Winston!

My first 2005 car. It is turning out to be ALOT better then I expected it to turn out, and frankly I expected it to be great! It is also the first time I have placed the contingencies separately on a complete car! While the Keller car needed it as well, it was far less complex then these.

Carl Edwards 2004 Shop Rat Ford Taurus

Carl's car from California in his abbreviated Rookie Season. Finished 6th, IIRC.

My first build of the new Revell 04-05 Taurus. Almost box-stock, I opened the vent in the cowl (something I will be doing on all the 04-05 Fords from the kit) and I drilled out the fuel overflow. Will use 3 Amigos decals.

Carl Edwards 2005 Scotts Ford Taurus First Win Superdetailed

My first super detailing attempt! I figure now is as good a time as any to give it a try. So far, with only one day of working, I have opened the trunk, opened the roof flaps and began scratchbuilding new ones, opened the cowl vent, drilled out the fuel filler and removed the rear posts. I also modified the rear of the chassis.
There is going to be ALOT of work in this, and I don't plan to finish it for months.
Started 1/13/06.
I will be using a Modern Motorsports fuel system and gas tank. I will also open up the dashboard and use Modern Motorsports parts there too.
Decals will eventually be RaseScale.

I am debating opening up the grill as well, I have yet to decide on that and the cowl vents. I still have lots of work I need to do on this, before I can even get it into primer.

International Scout

COMPLETE!!
I remember when AMT annouced this re-issue, I was so exited because I have always liked the International Scout and I couldn't wait to build one in scale.
Fast forward to Christmas 2004 and I get one under the tree.
I started it less then a week later and now I am finally building it!
I decided to make it Testors green, as every single International Pickup and Scout I've seen in real life is green :)

COMPLETE!!
This is based off Revell's "Customs 70s Van" kit from 2002 (I think), painted Tamiya black and has since been decaled...but like nothing I've ever seen before!
