It's pretty rare, but occasionally I will build cars for people. I personally don't think that I have enough skills to be doing that, but if the person they end up with are happy, I guess that is what matters!
The Just Racin' Message board has an annual Christmas Exchange, and for my first year of participation I received Cassie's name. Being that we are both Dale Earnhardt Jr. fans, I thought the best gift I could come up with would be something I built. I've never built a model for anyone else, and this will be the first model I've built that's NOT in my collection. It's using the chassis from a 2003 Jimmie Johnson kit, whose body became Martin Truex Jr.'s Bass Pro Shops/ Tracker Busch Champ Chevy. I went out and bought a 2003 Dale Jr. kit for the body (and decals) and painted that with Tamiya Italian Red. I started work on 11/24/04, worked then and Thanksgiving, purchased the Jr. kit on 11/26/04, painted it on 11/27/04 and decaled in December. I have 30-40 more pictures to put up, but I'm on dialup. They will be put up soon, though. http://p210.ezboard.com/bnascarfanaticsmessageboard

My freind Ted is an Earnhardt fan through and through, and this build will be given to him. It is the first time I've ever done a few things, including making a fantasy car, and it's only going to be the second build of mine that I no longer have possesion of. But this one will be staying in New York, unlike the last, which was mailed to Texas. I used Silver Sharpie on the hood pins for the first time on this build as well, which is something I'm going to be doing on all my builds from now on. In fact I went and did all the inprogress late model hood pins tonight. The idea came about when myself and Ted were standing around in his store, Victory Lane in Glens Falls, NY, talking about all things NASCAR. The topic eventually led to this. I purchased a few Monte Carlos off of the Randy Ayers board, and one of them came painted black. I didn't really have a need for a black one so it sat, until we talked about this. I gave it a clear coat of Testors Pearl Clear, and the body was set. I ended up going into 5 sets of decals for this build, including the awesome Dale Sr. set from Wetworks (WW107) which provided the numbers and contingencys. A Dale Jr. 2004 AMT kit provided the Buweiser logos and most of everything. The majority of the decals are from the AMT kit, which, while it is 1/25, fit the 1/24 body greatly! A Revell kit decals provided the headlights, grills, and trunk logo. A Slixx goody sheet provided the taillights, and a Slixx tire sheet provided the tire markings. I gave it a red interior because a #3 car should have a red interior! It will be delivered to Ted sometime in November, hopefully it will be to his liking, it was basically done free reign, with Ted not seeing what it looks like until delivery.
