-
- Jun 9, 2009
-
Fame Rescue was dispatched at approximately 1:45PM on Tuesday, June 9th for a water rescue at the Brandywine Picnic Park. Initial calls were reporting two boaters that went over the dam at the creek, and were trapped in the water. Assistant 53 (McDonald) arrived on location and confirmed the report, and quickly added additional water rescue units from Longwood, and Kennett Square. Squad, and Rescue 53 arrived, launched the boat into the water, and removed one subject who was taken to Chester County Hospital. An intense search in the water by Fame, Longwood, and Kennett continued for the second subject fighting off the high water, as well as an approaching severe thunderstorm. Additional boats were called from Lionville, and Wagontown as well as the Phoenixville Dive Rescue Team, the Chester County Major Incident Response Team, Air/Light 52, Air 46, Comm 1, the North Penn Canteen Service (Montgomery County), and fire police from multiple jurisdictions. Crews called of the search after 10 PM that evening, but returned the next day to continue to search for the second subject. As of this update, the second subject has yet to be located. The Fame would like to thank everyone who was there Tuesday, and Wednesday for their help. (You all know who you are! There are too many to remember!)

| | | - Major Gas Leak Shuts Down Parts of West Chester Borough
-
- Jul 25, 2008
-
Fame with Goodwill, and First West Chester responded to the 100 block of E. Miner St Friday morning at around 9:30AM to a report of a gas leak outside. Arriving units found that a contractor hit a rather large high pressure gas line, and gas was quickly entering the houses in the area. Seeing that this was a large leak, Chief 53 (McCarthy) quickly called for additional resources from surrounding companies, and fire police to shut down several streets in West Chester. Fire crews were ordered to evacuate everyone within a two block radius of the leak. PECO arrived, and clamped the leak within an hour. Fire units remained on scene checking houses in the area with gas meters to monitor the air, and ventilate if needed. Fire units cleared the scene at approx. 2:30 PM. Units from Goshen, Kennett Square, East Whiteland, West Whiteland, West Bradford, Newtown Square, Downingtown, Paoli, Uwchlan Ambulance, Delaware County Canteen 47, Good Fellowship, Medic 91, and Chester County Comm 1 were either on scene at the incident, or standing by at one of the three West Chester Companies. (Sorry if we missed your company)

-
An Allied Waste trash truck skidded off of Rt. 202 and crashed just north of King road in West Whiteland Wednesday, July 23rd. Goshen, and West Whiteland Fire Companies were dispatched. Incoming units upon arrival found the truck in a cloud of heavy smoke. Thinking the truck could be on fire, Tanker 53 was added to the call for extra water. Once the smoke cleared, crews found the truck head first into heavy brush with the driver still trapped in the truck. Chief 54 (Everhart) called for Rescue 53 to assist with the extrication. The initial assignment for Fame's Rescue crew was to make an attempt to winch the truck away from the brush, but that plan was scrapped when crews from Goshen, West Whiteland, and East Whiteland (Sta. 5) were able to quickly remove the heavy brush surrounding the truck, and extracted the driver. Good Fellowship, and Medic 91 were also on the scene to assist with patient care. Fame units were on scene for about one hour and thirty minutes. Police are investigating what caused the truck to crash.

For the second time in as many days, the WCFD was dispatched for a reported building fire on North Darlington Street near West Lafayette Street. Numerous calls were received by Chester County 9-1-1 reporting the fire. Chief 53, only a few blocks away, arrived shortly after Companies were dispatched and confirmed a working fire in a two-story wood-frame, multiple family dwelling. Ladder 53 arrived shortly thereafter and again "Split" and went to work. Heavy smoke was pushing from many of the second floor windows and heavy fire was showing in the rear of the property. Engine 51-1 and Engine 52-2 arrived simultaneously on two sides of the building and stretched two hose lines and went to work confining and then extinguishing the fire. Additional crews from Rescue 53 performed roof ventilation and the Engine 53 crew stretched an additional hose line to the rear of the building and operated there. Extensive overhaul was needed to find and extinguish all hidden pockets of fire. The fire is under investigation by the Chester County Fire Marshal's office and the West Chester PD. Residents were again assisted by the West Chester Borough Housing Department and the American Red Cross. (Photos by Travis Tiffany)
