Major Gas Leak Shuts Down Parts of West Chester Borough -

Fame with Goodwill, and First West Chester responded to the 100 block of E. Miner St Friday morning at around 9:30AM to a report of a gas leak outside. Arriving units found that a contractor hit a rather large high pressure gas line, and gas was quickly entering the houses in the area. Seeing that this was a large leak, Chief 53 (McCarthy) quickly called for additional resources from surrounding companies, and fire police to shut down several streets in West Chester. Fire crews were ordered to evacuate everyone within a two block radius of the leak. PECO arrived, and clamped the leak within an hour. Fire units remained on scene checking houses in the area with gas meters to monitor the air, and ventilate if needed. Fire units cleared the scene at approx. 2:30 PM. Units from Goshen, Kennett Square, East Whiteland, West Whiteland, West Bradford, Newtown Square, Downingtown, Paoli, Uwchlan Ambulance, Delaware County Canteen 47, Good Fellowship, Medic 91, and Chester County Comm 1 were either on scene at the incident, or standing by at one of the three West Chester Companies. (Sorry if we missed your company)
