I helped build this car when i was a teenager. This car was one of the first 396/325HP Chevelles and was set uo for Drag racing. Shortly after this photo, the wheelbase was drastically altered and fuel injection and nitro was the way to go. The car ran hign 9's and 145 in the 1/4 mile for a couple of years. Bob Fulp built and drove it. It was an ill handling vehicle, but most of the first funny cars were. It was featured in High Performance magazine with the article written by Alex Walordy. I still have the copy.

This guy plastered "DeTar Automotive" on the back of the car and used to get paid to show up. When he discovered my sister was going to "sue" his butt for using my dad's name, which is a registered name, he sold it to some guy in Texas.

My parents took me to Kansas City International Raceway to see this car, and probably 30 others, but, they couldn't get it to fire up!!! I remember it like it was yesterday!! It simply wouldn't fire.
