In January 1940, in Suomussalmi, Finnish troops stopped, and destroyed totally russian 44th rifle division.
Russian columns were cut in pieces, along Raate - Suomussalmi road. Russian division lost almost 17.000 men, and Finns get all 44.th divisions equipment as a war booty.

In summer 1944, when Red army started massive attack against Finnish defense lines, and get breakthrough, Finnish army have to retreat some times through woods and swamps. Occasionally they have to leave all heavy weapons behind, so that units got wounded soldiers along.

Im trying to tell a story of Naval Demolition unit 14, ( LCM.14 /2d Lt. Phill C. Wood, Jr.) Unit was first unit landing on Omaha Beach / EasyRed. Unit suffered very heavy casualties.
