An explosion & fire ripped through Scully Welding Supply and an adjacent Storage facility, Kaiser Storage. Companies arrived to heavy fire venting from propane tanks with extension to the storage buildings. Companies immediately went into a tank cooling operation with master streams and elevated devices. Numerous large diameter supply lines were dropped for long distances to bring in the water needed for the large operation. The entire area was evacuated for a 3000" radius, and all F/F's were dropped back to Mac Dade or Chester Pike. F/F Childs was placed in a chopper and assisted in directing the placement of master streams from the air, also giving reports on volume of fire and tank impingement. The original call went out at approx 12:45 and was placed under at 18:20. Companies remained on scene well into the night putting out hot spots. Special calls were made for the Boeing foam unit and a foam unit from Philly, Foam-18 & Battalion-13 responded. Chester County and Montgomery County were also on scene with hazmat and fire fighting crews. Numerous ems were o/s for rehab and transport of injured workers and firefighters. All injuries were minor with the exception of 1 worker listed in serious but stable condition for burns, at Crozer Burn Center.
