B/C-11 had heavy fire on the 14th floor of a Hi Rise Apt Bldg, with extension to the 15th floor. All hands on 3 alarms were in svc with the 4th alarm companies staging. There was heavy smoke through out the upper floors of the bldg approx 20 stories 100 x 400. Numerous rescues were made by F/F's. 2 F/F maydays were sounded. 1 F/F was transported to Lankenau Hosp in respiratory distress. Approx 9 residents of the bldg were transported for smoke inhalation. Companies had an old 3 story Church. Heavy fire in the roof area and back of the Church. Water supply was a problem due to the distance of the Church from any hydrants. The Church was located deep into the park off of Grant ave. An interior attack was mounted for a short time until it was deemed unsafe. Master streams were then placed into service. Access to the Church was originally hampered by a construction fence around the bldg. The Church was under renovations. The fire eventually affected 7 homes total, with the bulk of the extension being thru the porches of the exposure dwellings. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes. Pipeline-34 arrived on scene reporting heavy fire from the 3rd floor of a 3 story shelter bldg, approx 100 x 150. Requested the 2nd alarm on arrival and placed all hands in svc. B/c-3 arrived and reported heavy fire in the center section of the bldg 3rd floor, and thru the roof in sector "C". All hands on 1st & 2nd alarms in svc requesting the 3rd alarm. Companies made an aggressive interior attack and brought the fire under control quickly. Approx 100 residents of the bldg were evacuated and placed in Septa buses for temporary shelter.
