I lived right across the street from this building 338 Garden St. To the left you could see a small glance of old Mayor John J Grogen house and on the cornor was a barber shop.
I lived across the street from that house as well. I don't want to repeat what politically incorrect name was given to that house by the neighborhood kids.
My parents used to put their savings in this bank. I rember that with every 10 or 20 dollars deposited they would give a dish or a cup of white porcelain
WHEN I LIVED WITH MY GRANDMOTHER RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET ON 6TH STREET, THE BELLS USE TO DRIVE US NUTS ON A SUNDAY. TODAY I WISH I COULD HAVE THAT OPPORTUNITY TO HEAR THEM AGAIN.BETWEEN THE BELLS AND THE PENCIL FACTORY WHICH WAS RIGHT NEXT DOOR TO THE CHURCH ON WILLOW AVE. KEPT THE NEIGHBORHOOD PRETTY NOISEY, ESPECIALLY AT NITE WHEN THE PENCIL FACTORY WAS STILL WORKING ALL NITE LONG. I CAN STILL REMEMBER THE REVEREND FROM THAT CHURCH, HE HAD PURT WHITE HAIR ON HIS HEAD. SUNDAY SCHOOL WAS IN THE LITTLE BUILDINGS THAT FACED CLINTON STREET. I USED TO WATCH JOHN THE BUTCHER, WHO HAD HIS STORE ON 6TH AND CLINTON MAKING UP ORDERS TILL ABOUT ONE IN THE MORNING. THE LATE SHOW WAS ON TILL ONE IN THE MORNING THEN WENT OFF THE AIR.
