Hey Now.... After the So. Cal NNL Show... My buddy John Teresi invited me to photograph this moment in history for John and I to cherish and to remember that late saturday afternoon when we got to visit a legend in Drag Racing 'TV Tommy Ivo'. John Teresi gave to Tommy Ivo his 1/25 scale 4-engine Buick Wagon Master. That won Best of show at the Citrus Nationals contest. Tommy Ivo took us into what he calls the Drag Racing room which was converted from a garage back in the day when it was a place where he parked his fuel car. As tomy says every thing that tou see in the pictures all have a significant meaning to him and his career.. From John Teresi and Me (John Hilkert) We thank you so much for the tour of your drag racing room and all the gifts... Thanks so much and take care.... Hey Now... Last year me and my buddy decided to do the Bonzai run to Santa Clara. Total drive time round trip was around 16 hours. This time we flew up there with Jet Blue. (Thank You Jet Blue). Plus we had more time and more money to spend... One of my buddies actually came home with many kits at a "Swinging" Price" Get it... Price... Hmmmm... Some people who came up from So. Cal ask for John Teresi. But no- where to be found. But as a Good Show like always.. I hated to see it end by that evening... This is such a great venue that a must for any model builder to see... Last count there were over 1000 model cars on display... And as much as 40 different vendors... See the pictures for yourself.... Fuelish we had more time and more money to spend... Hey Now... It was a long- long weekend for model car stuff... Citrus Nats was yesterday and Pegasus Model Meeting also... Today it happens too be Ventura ModelFest Wow... I should have read my topic from 2 years ago... Probably I could have save gas and time if I didn't go... But I did... What I saw was down right discussing... 1st... They charge $6.00 just to get inside to see the vendors...
2nd... They charge $4.00 for the 1st model car if you plan on entering the competition.
3rd... Then they charge 1.00 more for each additional model beyond that...
4th... If you happen to win a certain class then you will be awarded with a ribbon that a horse would have if it won a race.. (Sort of like a County Fair Ribbon) Catch my drift...
My Friend John Teresi took in 20 builds and that set him back as much as $30.00 to enter. He did win (3) 1st place and couple 2nd place and I believe (1) 3rd place RIBBONS. I repeat next year I would not make the trek to Ventura for the next ModelFest. Save your gas and stay home and build to your hearts content. A total waste of time... Even Model Magazine does not even show up... I wonder why... Fuelish from 2 years ago... Probably I could have save gas and time if I didn't go... But I did... (The 3rd weekend in February). Now there were 390 builds that were all on display for visitor to view in 22 categories. Each categories was awarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and 4 master awards for best over all. Best in Show went to John Teresi for his Tommy Ivo 4 engine Wagon Master build. Also there were awards awarded outside the 22 categories. The Bunch Brothers awarded John Teresi for his Mooneyes Fuel Altered. And Joe Tentschert pick for Recognition to our hobby went to Mike Flynn with his 32 Ford roadster. With very short notice the Old Farts Car club was also on hand to show off there 1:1 custom cars as well. Wow!!!!! All this came together with the help of the members of Kitbashers of So. California, Elks Lodge, 60 Builders and ? Vendors. Enjoy the Pics

Hey Now... What a Very Wet and Cold weekend. Lucky for me I only decided to go on Saturday, Because this was there first day that the fuelers got to go down the track. Do to heavy overcast and dark clouds and cold temperatures it was difficult to get the right setting on the camera. Then I switch over to automatic mode to aid in shooting pics for the day... As it got closer to the end of the day the pictures got darker and I had to delete most of the pictures. Fuelish clouds and cold temperatures it was difficult to get the right setting on the camera. Hey Now... I just got back from the Heat in the Valley.... The High School Gym was not Air-Conditioned. Man o Man I was so afraid that the builds was going to melt right before the camera lens... LOL. Seriously "NO-AC" I can tell everyone was a bit edgy from the lack of AC... But other than that Mr. Biggs "Anthony Rios" won best in show with a trophy and $100.00 coming from "Radio-Active Bob" We all know "Radio-Active Bob" NOW... And now for the real reason behind the Model Car Show... For the last 4 years the "So Cal Auto Modelers" have hosted a charity show for Canoga Park High school as part of the "Cruizin Tunes Car and Model Show" this year will be a step up as a NNL Contest. The themes are "Cars that race in May" (I Don't Get it !!!) And "European Exotics". (Now I do Get This One !!!) Entry was $10.00 for unlimited entry, Spectators were free and Vendor tables were Free... But a donation was suggested). This is a charity event and all procedes went directly to the Schools Music dept. and Drill Team. Last years show featured about 100 model cars. The Car show was great with Hot Rods, some excellent Muscle cars and many original 50's and 60's Street cars. Which I did not go outside and see do to the Heat... Bye the end of the day we drove by and pick-up some stuff at Burbank House of hobbies and stop at one of my favorite Hobby Shops in La Puente, Ca. I want to thank DJ and Tom for helping out with the Cost of Fuel.... Later Days Fuelish.... LOL. Seriously "NO-AC" I can tell everyone was a bit edgy from the lack of AC... Tom Acosta... Thanx so much for sponsoring me to go to the drags for the 1st time at Fontana Dragway. The Day was wonderful with the weather being a slight chill but I still wore short pants to the races.... The track apperars to be smaller but really it is not... (Possibility Optical Illusion) The track has a small shut-down area which I believe this track probably wont hold any Nitro Cars event due to the short shut down area... ( I can be wrong!!!) I though it was rather odd that the food concession closed approx 1 1/2 hours before the last race car went down the track... Too All, I have enjoyed the GSL show in Salt Lake, Utah. There were so many things as a modeler to do. I took in (2) Seminars about Painting and Decaling. The Kitbashers gang all headed for the best Hobby Shop in Salt lake City. Some found some out of date Photo Etched parts and Alclad Paints. The SwapMeet was the place where I pick-up a ton of Drag Racing Photo Etched Stuff at discounted prices. I took a special extursion to the Model Car Museum and seem NOT to be impressed with there collection. Robert Lissefeld who owns "A Vision for You" a place where us builders get to meet has a better collection of Box Art than this Museum. Only thing I saw was a very unique was the way they built a cabinet to dislay any and all my models. The weather was all the above. Snowing, Rainy, Windy, Cold and Hot all in a span of 24 hours!!!! I need at this time congratulate All the builders who competed in Competition Drag and Land Speed Record Class.
4th…Don Strong…. Expermental Electric Powered prop driven Land Speed Vehicle 3rd…Wayne Stevens Jr….. AA/ Fuel Altered (Rat Trap) 2nd…Wayne Stevens Jr…..Pro-Mod Mustang (Jegs Pro-Mod) Best of Class … Steve Perry…. 33 Willys Gasser (Prock and Howell)
Finally I want to express my gratitude and thanks toward the Jackman Family for putting my Wife and Me up for the entire week. Thanks Debbie for all the wonderful meals that you cook and sharing the Gospel with us…….. Fuelish Hobby Shop in Salt lake City. Some found some out of date Photo Etched parts and Alclad Paints. Hey Now..... I just got in from in Pomona to see what kind of photos I shot at the track. I still need assistance on taking photos from the stands. Those Funny Car and Top Fuel Dragster are so fast that even I am having trouble panning the camera as they go down the track. Many photos were not post do to there poor quality. Most of the track photos were shot on automatic focus and with muliple frames per second and still came out of focus. The pit photos I have down "Pat"....... Any body can explain to me how to do quality pictures from the stands?. If so drop me and email so we can discuss. I would like for you "Visitors" to look at quality pictures because that is what brings you people back to review my albums. Hey Now !! I finally got a new contest up. I want to thank the people of Route 66 of San Bernardino, Ca. for such a prime target area with-in the Carousel Mall. The lighting was way over the top for taking these pictures. Usually I dont post all these different models classes but I was called to take photos of this event. As for the other builders out there... When there is a card posted next to your model saying "Picture Request" That means we Route 66 wants your picture of your model. Very Simple!!!! That means bring it over to the photo area and fill out some questions on a spec sheet and pics are to be taken. Maybe next year we will get more pictures of the model cars. As for the photographer I should have got up and took some table shots but was very tired from the night before.... My mistake..... Fuelish taking these pictures. Hey Now... I just rolled in from Herb Deeks Western Scale Classic Show. The swap meet was most exceptional due that the all the kits that were sold, was Drag Racing related or Low-Rider related. Not to metioned that there were a ton of aftermarket stuff as well. Paul Rowe the well talented painter was there with his five 1/16 scale front engine dragsters. He has a candy apple red beauty coming out with the body of a old nostagia fuel coupe similar to the jaw breaker model in 1/16 scale. The attendance seem to be down, Possibility due to cost of gasoline is now over $3.20 a gallon in California. I hope these pictures is the turning point for me because I learn something called "Depth of Field" All these pictures were done on a tripod next to the table and all were manually focus with the aperature squeeze down to a F-11 and dialed in the time element which in some cases were a full 2 seconds for the shutter to elapse. Which was set on a timer to remove any shaking of the camera. (No flash was used). These are really good quality pictures because the whole entire car from the back to the front is in sharp focus. Its has been a long day and I forgot who won 1st place in Nostalgia Drag Racing and Regular Drag Racing Class. So long for now, and sit back and enjoy the drag racing models. Listen to my Rant !!!!!! I am so bummed today that the races where cancelled due to that the racing surface was not up to racing standards. The races seem to have an Errie feeling about it this year. In the previous week the races were postponed due to a predicted rain storm and re-scheduled it for this weekend. I arrive at my friends house on Friday night soaking wet from the down pour. I log on the net to survey the weather for the rest of the weekend and predicted 40% chance of rain in the morning with overcast clouds threw the night with sunshine on Sunday. Well they did run a qualify session at 4:30 Saturday with no problems with the track. But on Sunday they did run a full session of top fuel and the track seems to be ok. When the AA/Gas came out a Willys coupe decided to tag the guard rail and proceeded to flip over side by side approx. 20+ times. 1 1/2 hour later they ran the next pair, and another Willys tag the wall at the same location as the previous Willys did. From that point the Good Guys people decided to make the spectators wait 4 1/2 hours before they announce what there intention what to do for the rest of the race. I am very dissatisfied with the Good Guys people. I over heard from a racer that the Good Guys people lost a lot of money on this event and possible did not have enough money to pay out to the racer who have competed. This was just (Here-Say) not from the Good Guys people.

47th March Meet Cancelled Dated: 3/17/2006 12:00:00 AM Bakersfield, CA Wet track conditions caused by weepers (pockets of water seeping through tiny cracks in the asphalt) forced Goodguys/VRA officials to cancel all racing at the 47th March Meet. Water from weeks of rain continued to seep through the racing surface today even though the weather conditions were perfect for racing.
The day started off with some sportsman eliminations and continued with round one of top fuel. Conditions were fine with Visalia's Brad Thompson running Low ET of the meet at 5.862. After a couple more hours of racing water started seeping up through the racing surface in several areas causing the cancellation of the event.
Goodguys officials deemed the race cancelled at 1:30pm. There will be no rerun.
The 47th March Meet got off to an inauspicious start when it was postponed a week due to rain. The rerun this weekend was not much better with most of the first two days washed out due to passing rain showers.
Its as frustrating as it gets, said Goodguys President Gary Meadors. The racers and the officials both agreed that the conditions were not suitable for further competition.

Hello Fellow builders, I just got back from shooting these pictures of the drag racing class at the Cactus Classic. This is for all the builders are interested in drag models. This year was the most drag racing models I ever seen here at the Cactus Classic. I didnt count the cars but I feel there were 30+ drag cars on this small table. There so many drag models that they kept moving the line further and further down to adjacent table. Since Model king has released the AFX cars there were plenty of those Comets, Falcon and so forth. I personally don't have a taste for the Nostalgia stuff unless it has a blower or runs on Nitromethane. My fellow Builder Bix Garland won numerous places in the drag class Thanks Bix. So sit back and enjoy these pictures. Fuelish Spectator drag racing models I ever seen here at the Cactus Classic. I didnt count the cars but I feel there were 30+ drag cars on this small table. On Thursday qualifying I mostly took pictures in the Alky Pits area because I am presently building a 1/16 scale A/Fuel dragster. "Imagine that" I building a dragster with-out a blower. I still need to address of sending in the photos on to Model Car Magazine.

Hello Again Fellow Builders This Model Car Contest was to replace the So. Classic in Ontario, Ca. This had a huge turn-out a lot of drag models. There were (2) separate classes in Drag Racing One was Drag Racing Cars and Drag Boats from 1972 and latter. And the 2nd class was Nostalgia drag cars before 1972. I had a ball there with my old friends and builders. There was something odd in the air that the Air Conditioner only work part time and made the contest room un-bearable. I was still having a good time in-spite of no Air-Conditioning. The Purple Henry J won Best over all and the Drag Boat won 1st place in drag model/drag boat. So long to the next contest. Hello Fellow Builders I got home late Saturday Night from Ventura Ca. I almost turn around went home due to the torrential down pour all the way there. 2.5 hours of heavy rain where I could not even see 30’-0” in front of my truck. I finally get there with the last 10 min. was absolutely clear blue sky. My friend Roger Lee brought out all his models that have been built from 20+ years ago. As well his drag strip diorama. I want to congratulate Roger for winning best over all. Note: His Shubert/Herbert dragster is not even finish yet per roger comments. So check out his website for the construction of this piece of art http://bigyohns.com/S-H-model.shtml

Hello Fellow Model Builders, The competition was fierce in the Drag Racing Class. There were a total of 37 models in this class. Including two models that I built. Here are pictures of models from the Pro-Street Class and Drag Race Class. I didn't take pictures of the other classes because my interest is only quarter mile cars. I believe that I am developing a weakness for the Nostalgia Drag Models. Because there are so many after market parts for Nostalgia Cars, you can now build a really good Nostalgia Car. I especially like to build the latest versions of Fuel Cars.
If any you fellow builders reconized your model or if I have misspelled your name, please send me a email with the picture so I can make the necessary changes. Oh by the way, for any of you familar with Victorville, Ca, located in the High Desert; While traveling up there it actually snowed. So if you check out the last Photos of this album you will see this white stuff dusted on top of my truck. Everybody knows that it never rains or snows in California.

"Hey Now Fellow Spectators," I sure had a lot of problems with my camera this weekend. I found out that it's very difficult to shoot a 300+ mph Aluminum bullet. Sorry for some of the pictures being so blurry. I will try to do better in February. If any one out there wants to dispurse info on shooting digital photos at the top end! "I am all ears." Till we meet again. Fuelish Spectator pictures being so blurry. I will try to do better in February. If any one out there wants to dispurse info on shooting digital photos at the top end! Hey Now, I had a blast. Talk to some of my old friends such as Mike Flynn of Pegasus in Montclair, Ca. Mike help build this contest as what is today. I heard rumors that this was the last contest here. But I went to the source and ask Mike "That is this "True" and he said they might have to relocate to another venue due that to rent out this room at the DoubleTree inn is getting rather costly. But he said that the show will continue. Hopefully he is right. I want to congratulate Ron Ramsay for winning my 1st Place in Drag Race class.

Under gloomy skys there were alot of Nitro fumes at the track and in the pits. Boy Shumacher camp seems to dominating most of the pro pits area. Above all this was some good clean racing. - photos: 83 (14 MB)

Was more interested in the 1/25 scale model cars than the 1/1 real race cars. Just got back from the drags and ended up at the Museum to get out of the cold. - photos: 34 (5 MB)
