    Philadelphia Expo Center, Oaks, Pa

2014 marked the fourth year of Full House Motorsports throwing the party known as the NorthEast Rod and Custom Nationals at the Greater Philadelphia Expo center in Oaks, PA and it may have been the best on yet. The winter season still has the northeast corridor firmly in its icy clutched so it was time to go inside for a healthy, warm dose of chrome , paint and horsepower. This show has it all. Finely restored muscle cars, nasty street machines, killer race machines, tasty hot rods and everything else a frozen gearhead could ask for. One side of the expansive hall was renamed Gasoline Alley was filled with traditional rods, rat rods and old school stuff. Custom trophies were fabbed out of vintage parts specially for these guys. “Pro Street is not dead!”…was overheard countless times over the weekend as the back-halved brigade was out in force. Tubbed stuff, from the understated to the extreme, was everywhere in the building. Other highlights included Top Sportsman Alley which was chockfull of those awesomely fast and beautifully finished door cars and some local shops and clubs had areas to park together and show off their rides. Trucks, of course, were represented with examples sitting sky high and others scrapping the pavement. The two wheelers had a strong presence as well with custom builds, restored stockers and pedaled powered entries drawing attention. Gas Monkey got paid apparently as the show brought Richard Rawlings in to hang out for the weekend to take photos and press the flesh with his northeast fans. This proved to be a very popular decision if judged by the massive lines to get some face time with the head Monkey. Add in slot car drag racing with Big Schwag Brett Wagner on hand doing ersatz Passtime style runs plus a pin-up girl contest and it was a great weekend in thawing Pennsylvania. Thinking of sticking our cars in the show next year….

So my brother and I road tripped up to the Saratoga Springs, New York area last weekend to party with the Rolling Bones crew at their annual Garage Night shindig. The bones crew Ken Schmidt and Keith Cornell host this Open House/Party every year in the cool barn where they put together some of the evil and nastiest early Ford hot rods to be found anywhere. Tons of food and adult beverages are consumed while you get upclose and personal with the latest Bones projects. Neat old powerplants sit around the shop awaiting their turn in the frame rails of killer chopped coupes in varying stages of completion. Y-Blocks, Hemis, Nailheads and FlatHeads out the ass! The barn walls are lined with vintage parts, cool artwork and awards from all over the country. Known for their road going and Bonneville exploits, Ken, Kieth and the gang are serious craftsman with amazing metalshaping skills. THe Rolling Bones clent list includes some heavy hitters, some of whom fly in every year from warm, sunny California to party the night away in cold, snowy Greenfield Canter, New York. Good times.

Before heading home Sunday from the Rolling Bones Garage Night a stop at the Saratoga Auto Museum is always a must. This years main exhibit was called "Remade in America" and celebrated the car enthusiast's invidual tastes, vision and passion for their particular automotive labor of love. Everything from Street Rods to Restos to Sports Cars were displayed. Upstairs the Museum is the home of the permanent Racing in New York exhibit featuring loads of the Empire State's finest racers. Worth a visit for sure.

My Collection of Stuff - Updated 6/27/11

Welcome to my collection of Drag Racing and Hot Rod Stuff. These are things that I have accumulated over my 42 years of fun livin’ in this automotive sport/hobby/lifestyle/addiction.....You will see lots of cool car-related stuff like toys, magazines, used-up parts, photos, trophys, art, stickers, posters, record albums, model kits, jackets, helmets, Ed Roth/Rat Fink items and a plethora of other trinkets. Some of my stuff may have some value, most of it doesn’t, except that it makes me smile. Just about everything has a story or memory attached to it and in that lies the value to me. Some of these things I’ve held onto since I was a child, some I’ve just recently acquired; the collection is always slowly expanding. So have look around and thanks for checking out my stuff…..
    Comments and Questions are welcomed…..
