All Further Updates will be on my blog...

You'll be able to search for routines, ask questions, rave, rant, etc. Eventually, almost everything here will be moved there as well.

It's just a baby, but it will grow in time. Feel free to let me be your guinea pig (within reason, of course). If there's something you want me to try, drop me a note and I'll do it, well...maybe. I don't really do mineral oil/petrolatum...but that's just me.

Also, I'm in the lab creating some natural products ON THE CHEAP in hopes of creating some goodness for the hair that won't require us to give up crazy amounts of loot to an industry that doesn't have our best interest at heart.

So far, I've got the following in the works:
- a yummy moisturizer
- a lovely spritz to refresh curls on a daily basis
- scrumptious herb infused oils
- even some body cremes.

At the end of the day, we can ALL make these things. Once I get the ingredients perfected, I'll offer up some recipes for those who want to satisfy their inner mixologist, and maybe offer a few for sale for those that just want the convenience of a tangible end product.

But either way, stay tuned for info, routines, products, and more!!!

2009 - going into 3 years!!!
I can't believe I'm starting another year online! I'm not too sure how much longer I'll be doing this. Not much is changing and my routine hasn't added anything new or spectacular.

Since the birth of the little one, I definitely don't have as much time to experiment with my hair, or fully style it for that matter. So, I've learned to embrace protective styles a lot more. For quite a while, I was doing buns (for most of December '08). Now, I am venturing out.

So, 2009 is being deemed the year of protection. As a matter of fact, I think I'll make a challenge for myself. 2009 will be completely all about protective styles and less manipulation. It's a time saver for me and healthy hair is a great side benefit!!!

My Self-Imposed Rules:

NOTHING BUT PROTECTIVE STYLES ALL YEAR LONG!!!
- Box Braids - natural hair, no extensions added - because I have found - to me - the addition of the extensions defeats the purpose (that is, if your hair is long enough). They are done so tight, and that synthetic hair can cut into your natural hair.
- Two-strand twists - I'll probably do these minimally. My hair tends to loc in twists that are left in for too long. And because they take soooooo long to do, it's almost a waste of time for me.
- Buns - easy protective style, especially for the ends, but high manipulation for me - to be used when I'm "in-between" other protective styles

BI-WEEKLY OPTIMAL ROUTINE:
- Cleanse with Bentonite Clay
- Follow with 3-Minute Mask
- Apply a leave-in
- Protective Style it up

MAINTENANCE:
- Coconut Oil applied to style daily
- Apply a little leave-in to the ends as needed
- Rinse once a week to ten days (or as needed)
- Tie up with a silk scarf nightly to limit frizzies and extend the life of the style.
- Drink at least 2 liters of water daily.
- Increase protein intake...good for me, baby and my hair :)

That's it...no exceptions!

My Little Precious
Well, what can I say?

There is an inexplicable amount of emotion and love that is born along with a child.

We had an EXTREMELY long and difficult labor, resulting in an emergency c-section. But I look at her everyday and thank God and know that it was completely worth it.

She is our little Angel.

2008 - The year of all things good for my hair
My EcoStyler Disclaimer: PLEASE, put a leave-in conditioner under this (or any other gel). I'm tired of folks coming to me complaining about the way the gel makes their hair feel. I ask them what they do, and they leave out this IMPORTANT step, and wanna blame me for the results. No way...not my fault. First and foremost, to each her own. Second, if you don't include the most important part, don't come complaining to me! Plus, it's winter time...give the gel a break!

Ok, so technically, I've been doing this natural thing for a while, but my last BC was Sep '06. When Sep '07 rolled around, I was pretty amazed at the growth - and that is with 3 ridiculous trims that really amounted to cuts.

This year, I am following a different course and looking forward to at least APL hair by the end of 2008. I think it is definitely doable (when stretched that is). That means that I will be focused on total body health (inside and out), less manipulation, and a simplified routine - probably punctuated with some higher maintenance styles from time to time.

We'll see what develops. I can tell you now, updates will be fewer are farther between. My hair hasn't changed much, and probably won't. But I'll probably color, and keep doing what I do.

Peace, love and blessings to all in 2008!

Starting Over...AGAIN
New BC September '06

Yeah, I'm scissor happy...was so tired of the straight pieces, I started snipping away. Then I asked my DH to finish it off...result is a lopsided afro. I'll have to get that sorted out sooner or later, but I am in a grow out challenge, so I won't be snipping for a while.

2006 - New Year, New 'Do, because color is a chemical too!
I had a really bad experience with a permanent color done at a salon (which will remain nameless, but I should have known it was the devil to begin with). But, moving along...The color did a lot of damage to my hair - I was going for something funky - looking to dye the top really dark, almost black, so my colored hair could peak through on the bottom.

To make a long story short, the permanent dye damn near fried my hair, so...I am pretty much starting over.

That's right; I've cut most of it off. I got rid of most of the dye at the top, which meant I then had to cut the back so I wouldn't look so crazy. Unfortunately, the dye chemical + the fact that the top of my hair isn't the same texture as the back still equals WTF???!!! And so a new journey begins...

July 1, 2006 - I'SE MARRIED NOW!

Well, I am now officially a Mrs. I am attaching some photos a friend took, mainly for hair purposes.

I got extensions for my Big, Fat Southern wedding. I was torn about it at first...was I selling out? Was I giving in to my mother and her Southern ways and not being true to myself?

At the end of teh day, I loved the extensions. They looked great, and to be honest, the weave did WONDERS for my hair. I think my hair grew almost 2 inches in the 2 1/2 months that I had them. And, as usual, no manipulation of the natural hair during that time was a GREAT thing. Only downside, hair is a little dry, but nothing a few treatments can't address.

Until next time...(I'll be updating the new natural hair soon!)
