Cortez is a little Chiwawa mix. He's young, energetic, sweet, and very smart. We don't crate him, and he's never had an accident, despite being home by himself for 8 hours at a time. He tries to attack the vacuum cleaner when it's on, he does a little dance when you get home by jumping in circles, he loves to cuddle, and he smiles (no joke--he actually raises his lips and shows his teeth when he's happy--it's amazing).

Ironically named for both his small size and enormous ears, El Torro is a Chiwawa mix with blue-grey fur, a playful attitude, and lots of love. He's going to make a great pet for someone.

Elsa was a cute Westie that Michelle cut like a schnauzer. She was a puppy and super-interested in attention.

Finn is definitely not a pretty dog, but he's got a big heart and a great sense of humor. And he drinks more water than any dog I've ever seen.

Henry is an adorable guy. We think he's something like a lab-akita mix. He's extremly friendly, surprisingly gentle, and thinks he's a lap dog. He's not at all aggressive (he lets our little schnauzer, who is about 1/3 his size, boss him around), but loves to play and romp with the best of them.

Jacques is a poodle (mix?) who's really lovable, a definite lap dog, and ridiculously smart and quirky.

Joey's a puppy who's a mutt. He's an awesome little guy; very curious, playful, and sweet. He had a very badly broken leg when he was picked up off the street so is recovering from surgery and hops around using 3 legs (hence "Joey").

Lavette (French for dish rag) is an adorable adult Shi Tzu that has been living with us for a few days. She's one of the lowest maintenance little dogs I've ever known. Silent, sociable, and patient (she let Michelle bathe her with little complain, and loves the blow dryer for some reason). She's a great dog.

Named for Christopher Marlowe, this Shnauzer-Cocker Spanuel mix is a beautiful little dog, about 20-something pounds and around 3 years of age.

We only had McKenzie for a few hours; we picked him up from the vet and brought him to a foster family in CT. He's blind since his SOB owner let an eye condition go untreated, but actually gets around remarkably well! At the vet hospital, he knew his way around by keeping next to the wall, and while Michelle was in a store for 20 minutes he managed to find his way around the entirety of the my car's interior, including the freaky jump from the back to the front seats. He's a really gentle guy, and I think he's going to make a great pet for somebody.

Merlin is a 4 year old Maltese. He's house trained, follows the Baron around when outside, and is just an easy dog to take care of. He also prefers to sleep on the floor to the bed, which endears him to me.

We only had Paisley a week, but she had one of the biggest personalities of any of the dogs. She needed surgery on her knee, but was adopted while she still had her cast on.

For the annual Underdog calendar, Joey was picked to be photographed. This makes sense as he's one of the most attractive dogs we've had. Baron went along for the ride, and managed to sneak some photos as well.

Named because her big, sad eyes remind one of the old British supermodel, twiggy is a big sweetheart. She loves children, doesn't love other dogs until she gets to know them (she adores Baron now), and probably won't be with us long.
