Chilhowee Dam needed repairs, so lake was drained in Sept. 2008. Construction on the dam started in 1955. It was completed in 1957. The Chilhowee community has been under water for 50 years. We were amazed at the grassy spots that are growing after being under water for 50 years. Notice the "green" as you browse thru the photos. Shells everywhere! Everything will be re-submerged in early 2009.
