The top part of the horse is made from 1x4 boards with pieces of 2x2 sandwiched at the bottom of the 1x4s. This makes a horseshoe shape into which pieces of scrap 2x4 could fit, if I was cutting across the sawhorse and wanted to raise the cut board above the sawhorse itself.
