Very limited right now, with only the Sunray Shopping Center and a picture of the Ramada Inn. I will work on getting more representation for the area. - photos: 7 (540 kB)

The area around Como Lake is Saint Paul's premier outdoor area. This whole area includes the lake, pavilion, golf course, public pool, picnic grounds, conservatory, zoo (free admission!), and even a Japanese garden to show the city's connection to Nagasaki, Saint Paul's sister city and the first U.S.-Asia sister cities in history. Originally an east side competitor for Summit Hill, Dayton's Bluff never quite met the success that Summit Avenue had, yet it has quite a few pleasant buildings and neighborhoods intact. It also holds a large group of state-run buildings, making it a government stronghold. a large group of state-run buildings, making it a government stronghold. - photos: 88 (25 MB)

The East Side is the easternmost neighborhood, inhibiting northeastern Saint Paul and surrounded completely by suburban Maplewood. As Saint Paul expanded from the 1880's on, the east side slowly filled in as the topography (the most challenging to cross) was surmounted. The far eastern edges of the city, around White Bear Avenue, are actually suburban style developments that filled in the outer ring of the city's boundaries in the 1950's and 60's. filled in as the topography (the most challenging to cross) was surmounted. Highland Park is an affluent, predominately middle-class community in southwestern Saint Paul. There are a number of prestigious educational institutions in the area, but the major factor that is attributed with the development of the neighborhood is the Ford Plant, which is still producing new vehicles. The plant has spawned a hydro power plant and a inter-city bridge jointly funded by the two cities. Ford Parkway is the main commercial artery of the neighborhood. attributed with the development of the neighborhood is the Ford Plant, which is still producing new vehicles. A smaller, western neighborhood. There is a pleasant diversity of housing here, many of it close to the bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River. An older neighborhood encompassing parts of the Midway and some of the old railroad suburbs of Saint Paul. This was once in line to be the site of the current Capitol building was planned to be, much to the influence of James J. Hill and John Ireland of the archdiocese. Today, it has quaint little neighborhoods and a mix of everything, with easy access to much the rest of Saint Paul. to the influence of James J. Hill and John Ireland of the archdiocese. Part of the greater east side, this is a heavily populated and diversified portion of Saint Paul. Payne Avenue is one of the city's important thoroughfares, while Phalen Lake is a popular recreational spot that is maintained by Ramsey County, along with Saint Paul and Maplewood, whose borders surround the southern and northern sides of the lake respectively. spot that is maintained by Ramsey County, along with Saint Paul and Maplewood, whose borders surround the southern and northern sides of the lake respectively. - photos: 52 (28 MB)

St. Anthony Park was a middle-class commuter rail suburb in the late nineteenth century that was incorporated into the city of St. Paul. Primarily residential in the north with a large number of homes over a century old. Industrial character to the south along Highway 280 and University Ave. In contemporary times, the neighborhood has experienced a large influx of college students due to the University of Minnesota-St. Paul that is adjacent to the neighborhood in Falcon Heights. over a century old. Among the elite of the city is Summit Ave., an elegant street with victorian houses and a variety of mansions, some dating back to the late 1800's. Summit Hill is a historic and elegant part of Saint Paul, complemented with pockets of urban richness. This album also includes Summit-University, largely a continuation of Summit Hill, which is hard to differentiate. Paul, complemented with pockets of urban richness. For right now, this album only has the Capitol Heights area, a small community adjacent to the capitol building in Saint Paul. These photographs were part as an urban studies project documenting the changes implemented by their small area plan, a set of goals created to make the community a more viable place. The main points included: Keeping Rice St. healthy, improve housing stock, build retaining walls for the bluffs, connect the neighborhood to amenities, and the dealing with several tracts of land around the neighborhood. changes implemented by their small area plan, a set of goals created to make the community a more viable place. A strong Latino neighborhood (not documented yet), most of the residents of this south central Saint Paul neighborhood sit high on the bluffs, called the district del sol (District of the South). Meanwhile, the West Side Flats, low lying lands across from downtown, is a major area the city is looking at for redevelopment.
