Neighborhood: East Side

The East Side is the easternmost neighborhood, inhibiting northeastern Saint Paul and surrounded completely by suburban Maplewood. As Saint Paul expanded from the 1880's on, the east side slowly filled in as the topography (the most challenging to cross) was surmounted. The far eastern edges of the city, around White Bear Avenue, are actually suburban style developments that filled in the outer ring of the city's boundaries in the 1950's and 60's.

The big picture on White Bear Avenue. Derelict commercial scenery of the early suburban age. The vacant Burger King sign in front has new life as a Taco World, but very little else has changed.
