-
The most inland freshwater port in the world, Duluth sits on the far southwestern corner of Lake Superior, across from its smaller Wisconsin counterpart, Superior (also featured in this album). The incredibly hilly city has a population of 86,918 (2000) and was for a long time the largest city outside of Minneapolis or St. Paul. However, Rochester and Bloomington have since caught up to and surpassed Duluth, though its status as the shipping point for Minnesota's iron industry and the gateway to the North Shore make it an important (and beautiful) city. incredibly hilly city has a population of 86,918 (2000) and was for a long time the largest city outside of Minneapolis or St. Paul.
