Fond du Lac is the county seat of Fond du Lac County on the south side of Lake Winnebago, about an hour north of Milwaukee. Total population is approximately 37,000 in 2000.

The big, bulky Ramada Hotel was the beacon here. Apparently, this building had been a long-standing hotel even before the Ramada took over.
