Neighborhood: St. Anthony East/St. Anthony West/Nicollet Island (East Bank)

St. Anthony is the most historic area of Minneapolis, where the original village of the same name began and was absorbed into Minneapolis. The Milling District is also part of this area, where Minneapolis once ruled an empire of flour. Although the area has lost its economic power, it still has a great deal of charm and history that the city is working to renovate into new parks and condominiums.

Looks like the ruins of an ancient civilization, doesn't it? These are the vestiges of what was the hydroelectric power sources of the flour mills. Water from the river was guided into the underground pipes, turning turbines to produce power. Neat, huh?
