Ballindalloch Restaurant, Ballindalloch 'Hallway', Art Gallery, Reception/Shore Ex, Cruise Sales Office/Customer Relations, Photo Gallery

Art Gallery - Main Deck 6
Feb 14, 2008

Balmoral's Art Gallery is located just aft of the Reception Area on Main Deck. White walls and ceiling, turquoise carpet, well lit and the hallway from the Ballindalloch Restaurant opens out into a wider area. The walls are lines with various pieces of art [this is not an art auction area]. At times when passengers are passing through on the way from dining a string trio plays here giving the area quite some atmosphere, which otherwise can appear cold & harsh.

Ballindalloch Hallway - Main Deck 6
Feb 14, 2008

The Hallway leading from the Ballindalloch Restaurant [aft] to the central atrium [Reception Area] is in 2 quite distinct sections, the old and the new, the dark and the bright.

The after end retains the Crown Odyssey/Norwegian Crown decor with apex ceiling, but in place of the Greek Artifacts a series of pictures of Ballindalloch Castle, Scotland, lines the walls.

The fwd are area is the Art Gallery. White walls and ceiling, turquoise carpet, well lit and opens out into a wider area. The walls are lines with various pieces of art for admiring [this is not an art auction area]. At times when passengers are passing through on the way from dining a string trio plays here giving the area quite some atmosphere, which otherwise can appear cold & harsh.

Ballindalloch Restaurant - Balmoral
Feb 16, 2008

The largest of Balmoral's Main Restaurants [The Seven Seas Restaurant on Norwegian Crown]. Located aft on Main Deck 6. The menus are the same as in the Avon & Spey and one will be allocated dining in any of the 3. Avon & Spey seemed to be more popular but with open-seating at various times there is always the chance to sample dining in each venue.

Plenty of shiny chrome in here, but the furniture off-sets this to some extent. The are 2 serving stations for breakfast/lunch buffets. Lots of light through the windows, but dark in the central area with some quite bright backlit ceiling decorations.

Reception, Shore Tours & Photo Gallery - Balmoral
Feb 14, 2008

Reception is on Main Deck 6; lower level of the two storey Atrium. A rather glitzy area packed with chrome & glass, shiny ceiling & chrome staircase. Tucked away almost under the staircase is an Arnaldo Pomodoro 'Globe' [must be the offspring or kid brother of Costa Classica's, as half the size], but the setting does not do it justice. Too dark with too much reflection from the patterned carpet & surrounds on its shiny surface. Almost ignored by all & out of place. A move to a corner of the Braemar Lounge might be appropriate, with more seating in Reception.

The Shore Tours, Future Cruise & Customer Relations Offices all occupy the area around the Atrium with the Photo Gallery foremost.
