"Buffet in the Kitchen"
Dec 26, 2006

Costa Classica's Buffet Magnifico in the Galley.
At Midnight. The galley [deck 8 - Roma, aft] was accessed to starboard from the Tivoli Restaurant through a swivel door. Only 3 people can fit at anyone time so this kept the queue in order; it was only a short wait. We walked around the set route, collecting food and taking photos, before exiting to port and eating.

Galileo Disco & Observation Lounge - Deck 14 Cortina
Dec 23, 2006

Although Deck 14 on most things and the signage, it really is 13, and says as much on the plan given with the Cabin Key.
A lovely Observation Lounge with fabulous 360 degree views, but the bar does not open until 11pm any night.. so basically the whole room is dead during the day, without being able to get even a coffee. People do sit here, including myself, for a quiet read, but being able to have a drink would entice more.
In the evening Discos were scheduled to start anywhere from 11.45pm onwards - goodness knows when they finished. Prior to that the Teens often had some activity scheduled; a disco or competitions such as 'Mr Mustafa' or 'best Couple'. Father Christmas/Santa Claus also called here on Christmas Eve to hand out a Kinder soft toy with a bag of chocs attached to all youngster including the teens.

La Trattoria Buffet - Deck 10 Portofino Aft
Dec 23, 2006

This room is disappointing. Dark and dismal as all windows to port and starboard are covered by the lifeboats. The flooring is wooden in the main area, leading to very high noise levels. There is only a small 'dog-leg' to the entrance which is carpeted. The drinks stations to aft lead out to the Alfresco Café, where one can enjoy the views over the stern under a canopy. BBQs are held out here at lunch.
Open for breakfast and lunch [and dinner the first evening for late arrivals in Dubai]. There are 2 serving areas, one each side. As the main entrance is to starboard, use the port area as it nearly always has few people, while there is a queue to starboard.
A wide variety of food is served, to suit both Southern and Northern European tastes. Omelette stations for breakfast and eggs anyway you wish. Hot food, cereals, fruit, cold meats, cheese and Danish. Coffee is good and strong. Juices are the horrible packet mix type.
Lunches have a main 'dish' of the day, but also many other choices, soft serve ice cream machine and lots of desserts, but not the chocolate gooey type. There are only a handful of photos, some of which are blurred but left in to show the area.

Piazza Navona, Grand Bar - midship Deck 8 - Roma
Dec 23, 2006

Live Music, Quizzes, Dancing, 'Mr Costa Classica', Captain's Cocktail Party and even a Fashion Show took place in here. A large lounge stretching the width of Costa Classica with the Grand Bar to port and dance floor to starboard. A central staircase above the Atrium, leads to La Tavernetta [Pizzeria] and Il Dolce Amore [Wine Bar] on Deck 9 Firenze. This lounge is the heart of the ship, decorated with small statues by ????

Puccini Ballroom & others - Aft Deck 9 - Firenze
Dec 29, 2006

One of the nicest lounges aboard. Ballroom Dancing [Valzer, Tango, Cha Cha Cha etc] and classical music with the Night Passage Band. However such things as "Sexy Game" & "Ali Baba & Miss Sherazade" also took place here. There was a Christmas Ball one evening and 'Fiesta Latina' another. A Beatles Tribute with Duo Jackpot and musical tasting sessions. During the daytime it is quiet in here, but no bar service until after 6pm. Access is through the casino, which is rather odd.
Port corridor leading to the San Remo Casino. The Video Arcade occupies a small area fwd of the casino, along with the Starboard corridor. The casino stretches the full width of Costa Classica and looks drab during the day; one is not permitted to take photos here, so just 2 small out of focus stealth ones.

Reception, Information Area & Atrium - Deck 5 Pisa
Dec 23, 2006

A very 'cold' area with white marbled floors. The only warmth here was the Christmas Tree. The Atrium stretches 5 decks to a glass domed ceiling, above the suspended staircase between Piazza Navona [Deck 8] & LaTavernetta [Deck 9]. There are no openings to the accommodation Decks 6 & 7. The 'green' of the upper lounges tints the sides of the atrium.
The centrepiece is a large Arnaldo Pomodoro bronze sculpture.

Stairwells, Photo Gallery & Deck 12 'Greenhouse'
Dec 23, 2006

A few photos of the Photo Gallery, deck 9 Firenze. The endless marble stairwells which sounded as if one was in an indoor swimming pool and the lift lobby fwd on Deck 12 Ravello, which seemed added as an afterthought [though not].

Stateroom / Cabin 7084
Dec 29, 2006

Standard inside cabin, fairly roomy, minimal storage, comfy beds, good layout with the bunk beds at the end, not over the main beds so they could remain as a double. Large circular shower with non-sticky curtain, but dribble of water through tiny showerhead. Shampoo in dispenser, but bar of soap provided. No other amenities in the bathroom. The cupboards under the sink are large enough but hopeless as the only towel rail is across the front. Moving the towels caused them to fall off. No clothes line.

Cabin TV showed a good selection of things, positional map, webcam and onboard services. Although the docs stated both 110 & 220v in the cabin we only found one US pin outlet. In the bathroom there was however 220v in the shaver socket, but looked a bit 'iffy'! Safe in the cupboard operated by a number code of your choice. Mini bar with various alcoholic & soft drinks - didn't use and it was locked on the last day. Phone with alarm. Chair in front of the dresser left no room to move, but was of the folding variety so we 'put it away' and then found a 2nd one under the bed. Only usable if a 2 berth cabin. The dresser and bedside 'tables' are merely shelves; these should have drawers providing more storage.

The 'wooden' edging to top of headboard level is nice, but has left a very grubby rim around the room on the wall above. A/C did not initially work, took a few visits by the engineer up until 2am the 1st evening to get cool air; it had been hotter than the hallway.

Most of these photos were taken in a rush on the last night as packing was underway when I realised I had not taken any; hence the 'mess':)

Tivoli Restaurant - Deck 8 Roma Aft
Dec 23, 2006

A nice sized room, with table sizes to suit everyone. It does however become exceedingly noisy in here, more so sitting at the fwd section in the middle, where we ate the first night which was open seating. Thereafter we had table 107 for 8, a 'squashed oval' port aft.
There are 2 sittings, the times of which vary; 1st either 6.15 or 6.45 & 2nd 8.45, 9.00 or 9.15pm. The food was generally good.. some things not quite to our tastes, others excellent. The Oxtail Soup got a bit more taste the 2nd night as Beef Consommé. You had better like Spinach, it came with virtually every meal. Italian Christmas Pudding is an experience.
There were always fries available if wished and one does get a proper cheese board.. but towards the end of the week only Edam & Gouda remained. . our waitress didn't smile until the last night; glad to see the back of us? ;)-p

Some photos are not too clear, but left in to show the food and fibre optic lights on the Baked Alaska! Well I suppose they were better than the sparklers alone on HAL. Also See 'Buffet in the Kitchen'
