QE2's Tyne Arrival - 16 Sep 2007
Sep 16, 2007

Our ETA was 16:30, however the weather was very windy [and raining] and the first 2 attempts at entering the Tyne were aborted. We were advised if we didn't make it at the 3rd attempt we would have to spend the night offshore. Thankfully for the soaked through spectators still lining the shores we arrived 2 1/2 hours late just after 19:00. The crowds were waving and cheering like mad; fireworks too.
As by this time we were dining and it was getting dark, I only have a small number of photos - 16 September 2007
RNLB SPIRIT OF NORTHUMBERLAND kept us 'company'. The North Pier Light, High, Low & Old Lights, North Shields.

A Royal Tyneside Departure for QE2 - 17 Sep 2007
Sep 17, 2007

The crowds never stopped arriving all day. The weather was appalling but it didn't dampen the enthusiasm. 100 years to the day Mauretania departed the Tyne.
It was a tight squeeze to turn QE2 [LOA 293.5m], with the Jarrow turning circle 360m wide permitting "Vessels up to 300 metres to swing with tugs" - see http://www.portoftyne.co.uk/business-divisions/cruises-and-ferries/
Caricature of QEII with QE2 written as the 'crown' on the hill. The crowds really made the atmosphere and great fireworks along the harbour entrance - the video clips show this better 18:00 - 18:45 17 September 2007

A few views from aboard QE2 of Northumbrian Quay, Royal Quays Marina, the sculpture 'Tyne Anew' by Mark Di Suvero, Earl of Zetland Restaurant, the crowds and former Dry Docks. All day long people drove and walked by viewing QE2 and waving, with school children arriving after school too - 17 Sep 2007
