Pinta & Santa Maria
Jun 10, 2005

Replicas of Columbus' Ships, Pinta & Santa Maria are located at the Corpus Christi Museum of Science & History. They look as though they do need a bit of varnish applied.

Built by Spain to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus' voyages to the New World, they took 5 years to build & cost $6.5m. The 3 ships embarked on a tour of the Mediterranean & Atlantic ports of Europe in 1990 & 1991. After a successful tour of 18 US ports, they arrived at their permanent home port in Corpus Christi in 1993. The Nina, moored at the Corpus Christi Marina, is not open to the public.

The Santa Maria was a Nao, the flagship of the Columbus fleet & Nina & Pinta were were known as Caravels - 10 June 2005
