| | | | | | | - Dover/Calais/Dover Crossing Wednesday 6 August 2008
- SeaFrance Cézanne 11:05 & SeaFrance Rodin 15:15
The original plan for the day, to sail aboard SeaFrance Molière fell flat when her inaugural sailings kept being delayed & SF Cézanne was substituted. The 2nd plan to catch the 16:16 sailing back, to coincide with the departure of Carnival Splendor from Dover, also fell flat when that crossing was full & could not be booked. However as luck would have it, today turned out to be that for SeaFrance Molière's inaugural calls to both Calais & Dover for berthing trials etc. All SeaFrance vessels were dressed for the occasion, including Manet & Renoir laid-up in Calais. The timings of our crossings could not have been better, with being able to witness SF Molière sailing in the Channel beforehand, in Calais, departing Calais, berthing at Dover & then departing from Dover from the Western Cliffs. - subfolders: 1 and albums: 7
| | | - Dover/Calais/Le Shuttle Crossing Saturday 22 March 2008
- Pride of Dover 10:05/Le Shuttle 18:20
The booked Pride of Burgundy 09:15 sailing turned in the 10:05 Pride of Dover as they [P&O] had 'not yet caught up from the bad weather the day before'. We actually departed about 10 minutes early. Cold, windy, rain, hail & even snow. Bumpy with lots of white horses. On return [booked for 18:25] the Port of Calais was closed due to severe weather; with no idea when sailings would recommence [turned out to be just after 21:00], we transferred to Le Shuttle [no photos only video]. - albums: 5

Pride of Canterbury or Kent, SeaFrance Rodin, Pride of Burgundy & SeaFrance Renoir
This is the view of the ferries along the coast road towards Sangatte from Calais and once past there, up to Le Cap Blanc-Nez [yup White Cliffs not unlike those of Dover] you get wonderful views of all the ferries in full. The headland in the distance is le Cap Gris-Nez, the closest point to England [20 miles] and ship spotters often visit to catch a glimpse of passing vessels in the channel. It's a gorgeous road to drive along on a nice day. There are lots of places to stop. Cap Blanc-Nez [yup White Cliffs not unlike those of Dover] you get wonderful views of all the ferries in full. Wightlink announced it was supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month [2008] by putting a giant pink ribbon on one of its vessels [St Clare] as part of the month's activities to raise money for breast cancer research on Wear it Pink Day 31 Oct. Members of the public were invited to wear a pink item & make a £2 donation to the charity. My daughter took some photographs of all the ferries in Portsmouth during the afternoon. Unfortunately mostly directly into the sun, but you can just about see the Breast Cancer Awareness sticker & 'giant' ribbon either side of Wightlink's URL on one end of St Clare. cancer research on Wear it Pink Day 31 Oct.
