It is with deep and endless sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, auntie, niece, cousin and friend - Jessica Brooke VanDen Heuvel.
Jessica was born at the Lake of the Woods Hospital, Kenora on March 31, 1989. She called both Kenora and Thunder Bay home. Most recently Jess had graduated Grade 8 at Claude E. Garton and could speak fluent French since she was in Immersion throughout school. Her high school career began at Hammerskjold and continued at Beaver Brae S.S.
Jessica had enjoyed figure skating, T-Ball, modelling, Sea Cadets and music; she loved family gatherings and had a very soft spot for strays; animal, mineral or human. She loved the company of friends, being loving and loyal to all.
Jessie was saddened by the death of her grandfathers Nick (VanDen) Heuvel and Herb Stiehl and nanny Gerry (VanDen) Heuvel.
She will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered, by her parents Jennifer (VanDenHeuvel) Engelen (Joe) and Charles Engelen (Patti), her siblings "Big Jess" (Chris), "Chuck" (Melissa), Lorraine, Joshua, Damien, Kyler and Chelsea - also Chris and Adrien, whom she had just started to know. Also left to mourn are grandmothers Pat VanDen Heuvel and Lorraine Stiehl, aunties and uncles Sarah (Travis), Amanda (Paul), Deb (Vince), Dot, Rhonda - cousins Gage, Julie, Shelby, Justin (Nicole), Alysha, Rhonda Lynn (Brad), CJ, Shane, Curtis, Alyssa, Morley (Amanda), Brianna, Matthew, Karrie, Sean, Emily, Kathy (Sean), David (Brenda), - nieces and nephews Kevin, Anna, Jeremy, Adia, Chase.
I'm Free
Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free
I'm following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard Him call
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way
I found that peace at close of day.
If my parting has left a void
Then fill it with remembered joy
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss
Ah yes, these things, I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I've savored much,
Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts and share with me
God wanted me now,
He set me Free.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, May 21, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Knox United Church. Interment to follow.
