Towns around Finistere

Finistere is the Westernmost part of Brittany, which protrudes far into the Atlantic. It means, and literally is, Land's End. We visited Quimper, Morlaix, Landernau, St-Renan, plus parish closes of St. Thegonnec and Bodilis.

Thanks! I was pleasantly surprised the way it came out. The light was fading, and the last traces of sunset mixed with artificial lighting. It was pretty dark, I was sure nothing would come out of a handheld shot. O

    La Roche-Maurice - Eglise St-Yves

    Eglise Notre-Dame de Bodilis
The door-within-a-door-within-a-door motif is one of my favorites. But the crucifix at the end, out in the light, is especially symbolic.

Kudos to the long-dead architects, and kudos to the still-living photographer. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the kind words. I'm very honored to be mentioned in the same sentence with medieval architects. And I also liked the way crucifix put an accent on the whole picture - makes me happy that you noticed. O

    Morlaix - ancient gutter
The gutters that I saw before in other places were all on the sides. I wonder why in this town they decided to make them in the middle. How ancient are they, BTW?

Actually, old gutters in medieval streets are often in the middle. There are houses on both sides, I'm sure owners would not want to jump over the gutter to get home. In this case, though, that logic does not apply: both sides are blank walls. Oleg

Knowing what was likely to be bobbing about in gutters back then, it's no wonder people didn't want them running against their outside walls!

The repeated patterns and textures make this a fun image.
