Family:Asphodelaceae -Aloaceae - Liliaceae. - The genus name Aloe comes from the Greek word for the dried juice of aloe leaves, which in turn was derived from earlier Sanskrit and Semitic words. Η APG II system (2003) τοποθέτησε το γένος στην οικογένεια Asphodelaceae αφού πρώτα πέρασε από τις οικογένειες Aloaceae και Liliaceae. Το γένος αποτελείται από μικροσκοπικά φυτά μέχρι μεγάλα δέντρα. Μερικά είδη του γένους, όπως η Αλόη βέρα( Aloe vera ), χρησιμοποιούνται στην ιατρική. Πολλαπλασιάζονται με σπόρους, μοσχεύματα και παραφυάδες.
