Γένος της οικογενειας Cactaceae από την νότια και δυτική Αργεντινή.
Όλοι οι Pterocactus έχουν βολβώδη ρίζες.
Κατά την διάρκεια του χειμώνα είναι πιθανόν να πέσουν οι βλαστοί οι οποιοι ξαναβγαίνουν το καλοκαίρι.
Μέχρι σήμερα έχουν αναγνωριστεί 9 είδη:
