O'Brien's Hut

Also known as Bradleys Hut, in fact more commonly known as Bradleys, but the family believe this to be the most appropriate name.

Long Plain Hut

The original Long Plain Homestead was built by a Bobby Joyce for Dr Campbell to support his grazing leases. Alvy Oddy was the last leaseholder until late in the 1960's. The building, constructed of timber and lined with a wooden floor, is large at 7m by 11m. There are four main rooms and a verandah. The chimneys are mud mortared rock with iron flues. The original shingle roof was covered in 1927. It is now a National Parks and Wildlife Service rest area, and was badly vandalised until recent restoration. Fences now keep the cars away from the buildings.

The Long Plain and the Long Plain Hut are memorable for a number of reasons: The Long Plain is the source of the Murrumbidgee River.

Cotterill's Cottage

Cotterills Cottage

Location beside the Snowy Highway, where the old Yarrangobilly township used to be. Grid reference 322534 on the Yarrangobilly 1:25,000 map. GPS position available.

Brief History

Built in the 1890s by a Mr Hoad for grazing. The house is substantial in size and so was used from the 1930's to 1950's by Forestry. One of the Forestry managers' name was Cotterill.

Subsequently it was used as a Post Office. It is now used by recreational groups, by appointment.

Construction

Cotterills is a substantial building about 14m square, with a large shed at the rear. Excellent public camping can be had around the building.

It is constructed with weatherboards and fibro, above a wooden floor and verandah. A pitched corrugated iron roof completes the building. Interesting door and window treatments abound.
