NY World's Fair 1964-1965

Taken in the years 1964 and 1965, this is a set of 160 70mm slides. This is a project to scan the complete set, which will take a good deal of time.
Camera - Rolleiflex T
Film - High Speed Ektachrome
Exposure - not recorded
Scanner - Microtek ScanMaker 5900

Finally nearing the end of the project. I estimate about 20 or 30 more slides to scan

Thanks so much for posting these! I never got to see a World's Fair, but my mom went to this one and has told me about several times, I only have one photo (Of the Sphere, in my NYC album in Nature Shots & Trips) but I have never gotten to see it in color before. Thanks again!

Powerful composition, including the clouds. You certainly pushed the envelope with the Rule of Thirds! The relation of your lens axis to the subject matter is, well, powerful (if I may repeat a word). And the lines: parallel, fanning and forming repeating patterns! Very simple color scheme.

Trust me, "awesome" is a word I use sparingly. When I need a superlative to mean something, it's available. This image has garnered awe from me.

You have very many images here on Fotki. I don't know when I'll get to see them, but I'll try soon. Thanks for sharing.

I remember comparing the rotary phone with the new push button phone at this pavilion. Recently a child saw a rotary phone at our church and she had no idea how to dial her number.

    053A People
It's amazing to think that all those people, all those footsteps were there in a single solitary maze of humanity. I sit sometimes at the circle in the middle, that was the great Astral Fountain, wondering if the energy left by all those people...still remain....

I can remember when the high winds blew some of these wonderful mosaic tiles out onto the grand central parkway!!
Alas, that was the beginning of the end for this poor building.

    033 Sinclair's Dino
I also had a dino made right at the fair. It was green plastic. You could look throught the glass and watch the two halves come together. It injected hot plastic. The halves came apart and out popped your still hot dino. I remember the caution signs on the machine warning how hot it would be. I think it cost about 50 cents. Had it for years till a puppy chewed it up. I was 5. nice memories. I also remember sitting in the chevy convertables and going through the indoor dinosaur ride.

    136 unishpere, sunset
Remembering that this unisphere remains standing, I recall that the hemisphere at the 60's worlds fair in Montreal remained there for many years. Went back and photo'd it, but since then, it was destroyed.

Curious about pervious pic (which I could not open the "comment" offer). While most of your pics are still color correct, that one and a few others have appparently lost some of the sharpness. So far, most of my old pics have held up, going back to 1950, and in our historical society, we have a 1938 or 39 Kodachrome still not bad) Many of my early Ektachrome went sepia and useless, but Kodak assured me that the problem has been corrected.
ron (and I enjoyed looking at your view of the worlds fair. Some day I may get to copying some of my 35,000 slides! I have a HP slide copier, but can't use it with current Windows programs!)
    ===========================================
This is picture number 46. Are you referring to number 45 as the previous picture? I had no trouble opening the comment box. All I did was click on the comment button, then scroll down a bit.

I found my Australian pen pal @ the PP Pavillion, 44 years ago and I still talk with her everyday......
except, now we chat on the computer.
I love her, dearly, and we know each other better than anyone else in our lives. If we could be together, we would have done it a long time ago.

Your photos of the World's Fair are wonderful. I am too young to have attended the fair, but I live very nearby now and always wondered what the fair must have been liked.

    150 festival of light
There was a Festival of Gas, but that was different. This was called the Tower of Light. Same for next picture.
