The Housatonic Rail Road is a short-line freight road consisting of about 162 miles of track running along the eastern boarder of Connecticut and into Southwestern Massachusetts.

    This is the clamp that grips the tie. This clamp is mounted on a horizontal traveling arm (you see the end of the arm at the top of the photo) with a cylinder in it that slades the tie under the rail. It can also remove ties. The arm raises to clear objects like switch stands or whatever.
