Common Snapping Turtle

We found this huge Snapping Turtle at Bong Rec Area in Wisconsin. It's shell was approximately 18" end to end. I kept my distance taking photos which was really good since I later read that their neck can reach half the distance of their shell. As long as I didn't approach too close it seemed happy to stay sunning itself and it ambled back into the wetland shortly after I returned to my car. I loved the moss growing on the shell and all the wonderful textures on this great old turtle.
