The Great Egret remains white all year but has breeding plumage in the spring with long feathers flowing down the back past the tail. There are also photos of the Snowy Egret which is much smaller in size.

Egret #3

I thought the strong angles on the neck were very interesting on this fishing egret. My guess is the bones or cartilage lining the neck were very distinct as the egret bent it's neck. The brighter white lines across the feathers are reflections off the water surface.
