Green Heron

Adult and immature Green Heron I came across. Adults are 16-22 inches long and interestingly enough are NOT green. It took me awhile to identify these as it was the first time I saw them. The adult has orange legs which is part of the breeding plumage. I saw the immatures hunting in the same area approximately two months later and am assuming the adult had nested there in June.

Immature Green Heron #3

I was sitting at the water's edge when I saw this very strange bird approaching. I pretty much froze at it's approach and it looked right past me. Continuing further it hid among the cattails and fished at the water's edge. It had it's very long neck drawn close to it's body here.
