Green Heron

Adult and immature Green Heron I came across. Adults are 16-22 inches long and interestingly enough are NOT green. It took me awhile to identify these as it was the first time I saw them. The adult has orange legs which is part of the breeding plumage. I saw the immatures hunting in the same area approximately two months later and am assuming the adult had nested there in June.

I took this one about a week later and watched it hunting for about ten minutes. They camouflage extremely well in brush and often are not easily spotted since they stand very still.
