Beautiful wings spots and a reflective gold catch your eye when seeing these in the field. Males are a bit darker with orange/red reflecting from the wing veins along with a bright orange/red stigma. The females are gold and lack the dark stigma. We rarely find these dragonflies patrolling areas, they are usually perched waiting for prey. Many are quite high and are holding on tight so as not to be blown off the foliage. They don't seem very tolerant of approach and most will take off for a different perch.
