Final Rehearsal on Saturday

This is a challenging photography situation. The lighting is really dim. It comes mostly from above (but sometimes from below, as with the angels' candles), the site is big and open, it is a large group, and the group pictures after the performance must be taken in five minutes (I would usually take about 15 minutes) with a huge group of well wishers milling about! This is definitely NOT point-and-shoot!

Because I took pictures without a flash during the performance, what you see is what I got. My camera (one of the best available for low light) was maxed out for no-light situations, so you see the effects of very, very low light. You see a lot of orangish light because that was the color of the bulbs in the chandeliers. Sometimes the chandeliers were the only light the camera got.

For the group photos, although I have everything ready to go before the performance, I still have to move my flashes out into position. Three years ago my flashes worked quite well. Last year people kept moving between my camera and the flashes and blocking the infrared signals. As a result, you see a lot of dark on the left side of the some of the group pictures. I do what I can!

I take all these picture for one reason: it pleases me to do so. I take these pictures as a volunteer. It is fun (and encouraging) for me to hear comments about the pictures.
