These were shot at New Smyrna Beach, FL during the middle of Tropical Storm Fay: Aug 21, 2008.

The "eye" of the storm (wind velocity was not fast enough to be classed as a hurricane) had just passed over this beach ... and the wind direction was blowing from shore to sea. Rain was medium to heavy ... I am standing under an awning with heavy plastic wrapped around my camera. The lens is protruding from a hole I ripped in the plastic ... and the plastic occasionally causes a vignette in some of the pics.

Many people were risking a surf in the torrent sea. About the time I was shooting these pics, a couple in Daytona (15 miles north) were in the oean WAIST DEEP -- when a wave hit them. The girl drowned in a rip current.

Wind Speeds averaged about 25 mph and peaked at about 60 mph during this storm ... and some currounding cities flooded from the extreme watershed caused by this storm.
