a friend, i decided to build a kustom sled out of it. Wanting a fifties time period “coach built” kustom, i decided to stick with the straight six motor but yanked the 216’ out and put in a 1954 235’ with a manuel 3 speed tranny and open drive rear with 308 gears from a camaro for driving on the freeway. Next the car was “bagged & notched” with a master image custom set up. Body mods were done by “50’s joe” at the drag-n-shop in santa fe springs, ca. And those mods are: 3 1/2 chop in front and 4 1/2 in rear, rear three piece glass replaced with a 48’ chevy fleetline unit, body completley shaved, rockers were recessed and doors were extended down the lentgh of the car, rear quarter panels were extended and peaked and stock taillights were shaved, a rear custom splash pan was made and 51’ caddy bumpers were cut down to fit front and rear, handmade taillight buckets and lenses were cut into the bumper as was the frenched rear license plate and custom exhaust openings, doors open via bear claw latches, in front the headl lights are from a 53 cadillac el dorado and custom peaks were put in the front fenders to line up with headlight buckets, hood was extended and a custom grille top bar was fabricated and painted to give the grille (instead of headlights like everybody else) a “frenched” look, grille is actualy a 1949 dodge coronet unit cut down to size, parking lights come from a 54’ chevy pick up, 51 caddy bumper again cut down to fit, stock chevy dash was cut out and a 51’ford shoebox dash was fabricated to fit in place (looks better than stock), steering wheel is out of a 50 olds with a bullet center.
