1948 Hudson Shortened four door
Does anybody have any information about this 1948 Hudson Sports Custom / Custom Car.
The current own ...more
er would love to know more about its history.
Here is the information as provided by the current owner.
Last reg is 1961 in California. The previous owner bought the Hudson in 1972 in the LA area in 1972.
The car started life as a 1948 4 door.
The doors were removed, the center post removed, and after fitting longer coupe doors, the unibody was shortened until the coupe door meet the rear door post. This gave a wheelbase change from 124 inch to about 100 inch. Then the top was chopped, the car was sectioned about 3 inches below the belt line detail and another inch above the belt line.
All of the stainless window surrounds, interior garnish moldings, and so on were modified to suit.
I am not sure how the firewall was modified, but the inner fenders in the engine bay are cut down, the hood line looks stock, and the grille opening is several inches shorter.
The grille piece and parking lights at the bottom are from a 1950 Hudson Commodore and the curved piece is 51 Hudson.
Inside the all custom dashboard with its Stewart Warner gauges has all Hudson switch knobs and Hudson door armrest ashtrays in the wood dash pieces and a Hudson radio moved to the side from its original central position.
As to who built it, all I can say is the workmanship is beautiful throughout.
