1951 Merc custom show car.
Started life as a 1951 merc 4 door sedan.
After 16000.00 Garage kept miles, was sold to my friend in 1957.
Car was then taken to a well known ( at that time ) east coast customizer
Les Cove of Cove’s Auto Body in New Jersey, for a complete radical custom job.
Car was chopped 3 inches, 1950 ford rear window and roof section installed,
Sectioned 4 inches.
All hammer welds, 1957 turnpike cruiser skirts molded into lower quarters,
which are now the removable skirts.
1952 Lincoln tailites molded in.
Car was also made into a 4 door hardtop with rolled doortops
(no side windows) no problem with rain,
been all over the us with no problems when parked I use a car cover,
driving car creates a vacumm and water stays out.
Then they lost interest in the car stopped weekly payments to the shop
so it sat there for 13 years unfinished.
In 1970 mr Cove had a heart attack and the shop was sold.
Car then went to another garage for another 15 years.
In 1985 a guy was finally able to buy the car from him.
Then they began to finish the car. Louvered hood (186 louvers) frenched headlites,
custom made grill, split 1957 Pontiac bumpers reworked rear bumper
with exhaust thru bumperetts, GM front clip,with all new parts,
power steering, power brakes, tilt wheel 1949 Merc dash w/sun pro gauges,
Ron Francis wiring, 350 cu in olds rebuilt engine .020 Over mild cam,
th350 rebuilt trans, w/ genie floor shifter,gas tank done by renuzit,
10 bolt gm rear, interior done old school front to back sewn pleats,
white naugahide with imbroided bay blue in seat backs,
many more modifcations, car has never seen rust,
has about 8000 miles since completed car was shown 1st time in
Hamilton ohio at k.K.O.A. Spectacular 1991.
