Throttle Valve Control Module (Throttle Body) Cleaning

rss

After 83,000 miles and 6 years on the girl, the TB was in need of a cleaning.

Process took less than 1 hour and no gotchas to speak of.

Tools used:
5mm allen wrench for 4 cap screws (TB)
Pliers to losen and move clamp for the vacuum hose.
Socket with ratchet or screwdriver to remove intake hose.
1 can TB cleaner. (I used CRC Intake Cleaner)
1 toothbrush for cleaning.
Paper towels for cleaning.

After completion, use a VAG-COM or equivelent to set align the TB. Using a VAG-COM:

- Select '01-Engine' from the Select Control Module
- 'Select Meas. Blocks - 08'
- In the group text field, type '060' and click Go! Let the readings come up.
- Click 'Switch To Basic Settings' You will see the changes take place. The Adap Step Cnt will go from 1 to 8. Wait for about 30 seconds here.
- Click 'Switch To Meas. Blocks'
- Click 'Done, Go Back'
- Click 'Close Controller, Go Back - 06'
- Click 'Go Back'
- Click 'Exit' to exit VAG-COM.
