GEN 4b: Joseph Vernon Flynn

Working with Marla (Flynn) Habenicht to update the information on Joseph Vernon Flynn. Marla is the daughter of Joseph Flynn who I have linked up with through research on Doral L. Flynn and family. I was able to locate one of Doral's grandhildren (Tim Flynn) and sent him a letter via postal mail. The letter was forwarded to his sister (Leslie) and she also sent the letter to Georgina (Dines) Flynn, Joseph's wife. Marla contacted me through the Flynn Family Tree online and we have exchanged a couple emails since.

When war broke out, my dad was sent to duty in the Pacific on the USS Kitkun Bay. He was wounded in a kamikaze attack on the Kitkun Bay in the Gulf of Layte in 1945. He received a bronze star and a purple heart. He had his knee cap blown off and carried a lot of shrapnel in his body, but eventually was able to be released from the Naval hospital. He retired from the Navy, as a Lieutenant Jr. Grade, in 1947 and worked at Sand Point as a civilian. My mother also worked at Sand Point in the fabric shop (used to build airplanes).
